HBO 'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Spoilers: Series Will Reportedly Cast Latino Actors as Martell Clan, Film in Spain
:Game of Thrones" is taking a break this week for memorial weekend, but while some fans are waiting in anticipation for next week's episode, others are looking even further ahead. All the way to season five, that is.
"Game of Thrones" fan site WinterIsComing.net has leaked some details about next season's cast. It seems that a great deal of the new characters to be casted are related to the Martell clan.
Warning: Spoilers follow.
Oberyn's older brother Prince Doren Martell is one of the most significant additions to the cast, described as an fifty-plus-year-old man who "uses a wheelchair, is reclusive and rules wisely."
There is also Prince Trystane Martell, "the handsome fiance of Princess Myrcella," and Doren's bodyguard, Areo Hotah.
The Sand Snakes, Oberyn Martell's bastard daughters, are also set to be cast. Alhough it has been mentioned in the show already that Oberyn has eight daughters, it seems the Sand Snakes will be consolidated into three characters:
Obara Sand is "the eldest and most athletic" and will engage in a major fight scene with a series regular. Nymeria is of "mixed race" and is "beautiful, emotional and very strong." Finally, Tyene is the youngest and the least physically capable but uses her powers of wit and seduction (as well as poison) to produce deadly effects.
Interestingly, it seems that the show will follow the trend set by new character Oberyn, with casting Latino characters for the Martell clan. They are also reportedly seeking a black actor for the role of Areo Hotah.
In other news, Entertainment Weekly reported that the show is setting its sights on Spain for its next season, scouting locations in the Andalucia region. The new locale could very well be used for Dorne, the home of the House Martell.
Season 4 of "Game of Thrones" continues next Sunday, June 1.
