Mac Apps Refusing To Launch Due To Expiring Developer Certficates; Remedy Is Here
Apple has always been a little more strict in the case of its apps. The similar kind of hard regulation is applied to its legitimate apps publishers. The tech giant has always been a little more careful about its devices' security and therefore implied various code to check legitimacy. Similar protectivity is also seen with its apps certification, as the latest insight suggest that app publisher may see their apps getting terminated if they fail to gain their certifications within the time period of their expiry.
Recently, well-known app publisher for Apple's range of devices: AgileBits faced similar kind of termination with their tremendous password manager '1Password for Mac,' as an ample number of users reported that the app failed to launch over this weekend. Reports suggest that this was due to its developer certificate expiring. AgileBits, noted: "We knew our developer certificate was going to expire on Saturday, but thought nothing of it because we believed those were only necessary when publishing a new version. Apparently, that's not the case. In reality, it had the unexpected side effect of causing MacOS to refuse to launch 1Password properly ..."
As a usual process, Apple uses a dedicated protective shield in its MacOS to safeguard their devices from unorganized apps from uncertified publishers. The process is evolved with a few security checks which is used to recognize any apps authenticity. One of the parts of these security checks is Developer's certification check, at which point the app named '1Password for Mac' felt short since this last Saturday. Besides this, some other potential apps like Soulver and PDFPen were also affected recently, as per a report by MacRumors.
However, to resolve these kinds of issues, developers require renewing their certification with Apple. After this is done, the users need to download and install the updated version of their app. Only by doing this, anyone can get access to these. AgileBits has now completed the renewal process and users can re-install the app by following certain steps provided on its official web page.
