Apple News: 80% of Active iOS Devices Currently Has iOS 10 Installed
iOS 10 has been a huge hit for every Apple user, which is why it comes as no surprise that the latest iOS has been one of the most in demand Apple OS versions out there. In just over five months after iOS 10 was officially released to the public, the operating system is now currently installed on 80 percent of active iOS devices, according to the latest adoption data shared by the Cupertino-based tech company.
According to Mac Rumors, iOS 9 on the other hand, remains installed on 15% of active iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, while the remaining 5% of devices are still running on earlier iOS versions, as measured by the App Store on February 20. The iOS 10 adoption has appeared to be slightly outpacing the iOS 9 adoption over a similar time period.
Just last February 2016, iOS 9 adoption has briefly stalled at 77 percent of active devices. But ever since the introduction of iOS 10, its popularity has declined and the latest iOS has now fully taken over.
iOS 10 could even see further adoption from numerous devices when the upcoming iOS 10.3, which is currently in beta exclusive for developers and public testers, is officially released. The software update's key new features would include "Find My AirPods" and a switch towards the all-new Apple File System.
According to Today is iPhone, the iOS adoption continues to significantly outpace the Android OS. As of February 6, Nougat, which is the latest version of Android, is installed on just 1.2 percent of active Android devices despite it being released six months ago today.
Apple's full control over both hardware and software gives it a firm advantage over the Android ecosystem, while Apple is persistent in notifying iPhone, iPad, and iPod touches users to update towards the latest iOS version. This Persistency includes offering the option to have the software update installed overnight while the device is plugged in.
