'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Cast & Release Date: E.L. James Gets Wine Line, STI Accusation Thanks to 50 Shades
The "Fifty Shades of Grey" trilogy has not only brought author E.L. James an upcoming movie adaptation, but also a line of wines and the blame for increasing STI rates in the United States.
Deep Valley Cellars, located in Ukiah, California, partnered with the James to create two lines of "Fifty Shades of Grey"-inspired wines: Fifty Shades of Grey Red Satin and Fifty Shades of Grey White Silk.
"Wine plays an important role in 'Fifty Shades of Grey,' reflecting the sensuality that pervades every encounter between Anastasia and Christian," James told the Reno Gazette-Journal last week of the partnership.
Both the red and white wine are priced at $17.99 per bottle on the wine's official website. The 2011 red wine is described as a "decadent blend" comprised of "flavors of black cherry, cocoa powder, creamy caramel and vanilla, leather and clove spice." Meanwhile, the 2012 white wine is said to use "flavors of crisp grapefruit, mineral and lush pear with a faint hint of butterscotch" to temper "floral aromatics of lychee, honey and pear." Both bottles contain 13.5 percent alcohol.
"I've always had a penchant for good wine, so helping to create the blends Red Satin and White Silk felt like a natural extension of the 'Fifty Shades' trilogy," James continued. "I hope all of you curl up with a glass to savor the romance and the passion."
Perhaps a nice glass of wine is what Cheryl Cole needs to finish the book. Recently, she told NOW Magazine that she never finished the novel.
"I don't have the attention span to read a book," Cole said. "... I tried to read 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' and lasted 20 pages. I just get bored too easily -- even with that one."
Meanwhile, "Fifty Shades of Grey' is being blamed for increasing STI rates of 45 to 65-year-olds, which the CDC said more than tripled in the United States in the past decade, according to NY Daily News.
"When it comes to forgetting about safe sex we always think of the vulnerability of young people, but there's the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' effect where older people are being more explorative but not necessarily remembering to use a condom," said Dr. Charlotte Jones, the chair of the British Medical Association's General Practitioners Committee.
The "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie hits theaters Feb. 13, 2015. It stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey, Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, Victor Rasuk as Jose Rodriguez, Rita Ora as Mia Grey and Jennifer Ehle as Anastasia's mother. James is a producer, and Sam Taylor-Johnson is director. Filming for "Fifty Shades" finished in March.
