NBA News: Sixers' Phenom Joel Embiid Out For Rest Of Season With Torn Meniscus Injury
As per league sources, the Philadelphia 76ers have officially confirmed Wednesday that Rookie center Joel Embiid will miss the rest of the regular season. Embiid has been out ever since January due to a bone bruise and a torn meniscus in his left knee, and a recent MRI has led the team to change his status from 'out indefinitely' to 'out for the rest of the year.'
From the press release, as reported by CBS Sports, the assessment of Monday's latest follow-up MRI of Joel Embiid's left knee has appeared to reveal that the area that was affected by the said bone bruise has improved significantly in the worse way, while the previously identified meniscus tear appears more pronounced in the most recent scan. This was according to a statement by Dr. Jonathan Glashow, Philadelphia 76ers Chief Medical Director and Co-Chief for Sports Medicine Orthopedics at New York's Mount Sinai Medical Center.
He also said that he and his team will continue to work with other leading specialists to gather additional information by means of clinical examination and sequential testing in order to determine the best course of action and the next steps needed to be done.
According to Burlington County Times, Bryan Colangelo, Sixers President of Basketball Operations, also said that their primary objective and focus will be on protecting Embiid's long-term health and ability to perform on the basketball court. He also gives assurance to the Sixers fan base that the medical team and performance staff will continue their diligence with the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of Joel Embiid's injury, as well as provide any pertinent updates when available.
Embiid, at age 22, will end his remarkable rookie season with averages of 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game in 25.4 minutes of action. As he played in 31 games this season, Sixers fans are hoping that he will continue his dominance once he comes back for the 2017-2017 campaign.
