Prince Charles Still In Love With Camilla Parker-Bowles Before Marrying Princess Diana, New Book Says
A new book claims that Prince Charles was still in love with former girlfriend Camilla Parker-Bowles shortly before his marriage to Princess Diana. The royal prince reportedly cried the night before he was to marry the princess.
"Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life" is a book by New York Times bestselling author Sally Bedell Smith. It is a biography of Prince Charles, his life and his marriages to Princess Diana and his now-wife Camilla Parker Bowles.
People reports that Prince Charles was highly enamored with Camilla Parker-Bowles but the two broke up and she married Andrew Parker-Bowles for a time. Even while married, she and the prince had a discreet affair.
According to Mail Online, Prince Philip only married Princess Diana because it was according to royal custom to pick a decent bride. Camilla at that time had a controversial romantic past with her boyfriend who became her husband during that time.
The upcoming book claims that Prince Charles wasn't in love with Princess Diana but has decided to wed her because he thought something may come out of their marriage. The two were caught in a high-profile scandal where Diana's virtue was questioned after the two were caught spending the night together.
Additionally, the author points out the ill match between Prince Charles and Princess Diana who had an age gap of 12 years. This was also compounded by the fact that the two had little connections together or common interests, which is so unlike during his time with Camilla.
Years into their marriage, Prince Charles and Princess Diana had slept in different rooms and had respective affairs. The prince reportedly rekindled his romance with Camilla in 1987. His divorce with the princess was announced in 1996. The next year, Princess Diana got into a fatal car crash in Paris. The Prince and Camilla finally married in 2005 after years of their love affair.
