Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro asks United Nation's help for boosting medicine supplies in the country. He said such request in a televised appearance during an anti-imperialist rally in Caracas, Venezuela on Friday, March 24, 2017.

Venezuela has been struggling crippling shortages which President Nicolas Maduro claimed as caused by the economic war and the sharp fall in petroleum price. The widespread shortages and triple-digit inflation started in 2013 since Maduro was elected and former President Hugo died.

The request of President Nicolas Maduro for the U.N. assistance was so limited that it did not mention any further details except to say that the U.N. has the expertise to normalize the supply and distribution of pharmaceutical drugs in the country.

While Venezuela has experienced severe crisis where it was noted that people in the country spend a longer time searching for food in the garbage, Mr. Maduro socialist administration still provides assistance to Peru. Recently, the military dispatched two cargo planes of emergency supplies, including some medicine for victims of Peru's worst flooding in two decades.

This move was criticized by opponents. They claimed those supports were better reserved for Venezuelan people themselves. On Friday, Organization of American States or OAS announced the holding of an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday to address the situation in Venezuela. OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro is making a campaign of expelling Maduro's government from OAS for breaking Venezuela's democracy and violation of human rights.

Another anti-Maduro campaign was made by 14 Latin American nations including U.S., Mexico, and Canada. The joint alliance called on Venezuela's government to hold elections and immediately free political prisoners.

It can be recalled that President Nicolas Maduro disavowed a landslide loss to the opposition in the legislative election in 2015. He then made a suspension of the recall campaign that sought to force him from office before the 2018 election.
