Cook Accused of Licking Sandwiches Before Serving Them to Probation Officers: Charged With Battery of Law Enforcement Officers
A cook who worked in a correctional facility in New Mexico is accused of licking food items prior to serving them to probation and parole officers.
The criminal complaint alleges that Yolanda Arguello licked pieces of cheese and then served them to three different peace officers. Now she's being charged with battery on law enforcement officers.
Witnesses said that isn't the only thing Arguello has done with food. They also say she tampered with ice cubes before providing them to diners. They say she would suck on ice cubes and then spit them into cups before serving them.
Another witness said that Arguello dumped ice cubes on the ground then "put the ice ... back in the pitcher, then put tea in the pitcher before giving it to Probation and Parole Officers."
Arguello worked at the New Mexico Women's Recovery Academy, a facility for women that are referred through the prison and court systems.
The discovery of Arguello's misconduct actually stemmed from a newly arrested resident at the facility. The resident, Agnes Granado was complaining to her parole officer about "corruption" at the facility. The officer asked Granado for more details and she replied "Miss Yolanda (Arguello) licks your sandwiches!"
Investigators interviewed five other residents at the facility. One, Elisa Welch, heard Arguello say the following: "I don't work for Probation/Parole, I don't have to serve them. I will show them who is special, better than others." Welch didn't report what Arguello said because she feared retaliation and feared she'd get fired from kitchen duty.
Arguello was charged with three felony counts of battery upon a peace officer for intentionally contaminating food with her salivia. She was released on bond.
Press tried to contact Arguello using her listed phone number but her line was apparently disconnected.
KOAT of Albuquerque spoke to one of Arguello's roommates. She denies that Arguello did such a thing.
