NASA Launches High Altitude Plane and Present New Discoveries about Ocean Worlds
NASA's high-altitude plane has taken to the air for its GOES 16 field campaign, this mission will ensure that the GOES 16 satellite provides precise measurements to improve forecasting. The high altitude plane collected an enormous amount of data as it made several passes over large uniform desert regions.
Clocking nearly 18 hours of flight time, scientists used an Advanced Baseline Imager to perform a series of north to south scans of the corresponding area. The objective is to collect two sets of data, compare them and see how they match with the satellites. Before collecting the data they had to verify and check the accuracy of the plane's instruments as per NASA.
NASA has brought a list of discoveries to the world and they continue to do so, recently the space agency has said that they will be announcing discoveries about the ocean worlds. NASA is currently exploring the ocean worlds in our solar system as part of their search for life outside earth.
Researchers have said by learning more about the ocean worlds they will be able to understand the quest for life beyond earth. NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and the Cassini Spacecraft has been a great source for their findings. However, the Cassini will be ending its long mission this year.
According to CNN, NASA's Cassini has made numerous dramatic discoveries during its time at Saturn. The discovery of methane seas on Saturn's moon Titan would not have been possible without Cassini. One of its major discoveries included a global ocean that showed hydrothermal activity on Enceladus.
NASA also plans for further research on ocean worlds in the future in our solar system, the space agency is all set to investigate Jupiter's moon Europa on its recent "Europa Clipper Mission." Scientists believe that Europa could be a possibility for life in our solar system outside of earth.
