Latina Regina Romero on the Lead of the Mayoral Race in Tucson City
Regina Romero, a councilwoman of Tucson City had recently passed her mayoral rivals in the preliminary mayoral race in Tucson City. If she wins over Ed Ackerley (an independent mayoral candidate) and Mike Cease (a Green Party mayoral candidate) on November 5, she will be the first woman mayor of the city. Once elected, she will be the first Hispanic US immigrant to assume the mayoral position since 1875.
Tucson is the 2nd to the largest city in the state of Arizona. It is a liberal city but not that liberal to elect a woman or of Hispanic origin in the mayoral position. The last Hispanic leader of the city was Estevan Ochoa who had assumed the position in 1875.
The probable reason for Romero's lead in the mayoral race in Tucson City for the elections is that the voters in the city are considering the race and gender of the candidates. The voters are viewing Regina Romero as the best candidate to be the leader of the city.
She will be competing for the registered voters of the city with more or less 600,000 residents.
Romero had lived in Tucson since her college years. She was raised in a community of farmers where the Cocopah Resort and Casino stands in Somerton in the present. It was the same community where Jerry Anaya, the mayor of Somerton and other leaders of the city grew up.
Her mayoral race in Tucson City had allowed her to share her visions and plans to the public. Romero shared to KAWC, "Our families, our parents all knew each other because they worked in the fields." She even shared her memory of working on the farm with her parents and neighbors.
She also shared a message given by her father, "...you have to be proud of who you are and where you came from to know where you're going."
She also said to KAWC, "For me, Somerton, La Mesa, San Luis, Yuma will always be present in me because it shaped who I am... It gave me the impetus and the curiosity and the work ethic to accomplish what I have...because of my experience growing up in La Mesa and Somerton and Yuma."
Regina Romero supports and centralizes her leadership on positively affecting climate change and for improving the salary of city employees and police.
In addition to that, she also serves as a source of hope and inspiration for women and the US migrant population of Hispanic origin. Her accomplishments, plans, and visions are the primary reason for her popularity in the mayoral race.
She shows her respect and love for her past being an offspring of migrant farmers. She proudly showcases to the public her Hispanic language and culture. Romero believes that the city of Tucson had a rich past involving the welcoming of US migrants. She shares to the public that the city has a good amount of policies involving immigration and the city's law enforcement.
Her priorities for the mayoral race in Tucson City is to promote the growth in the economy, road reconstruction, support the youth's initiatives in promoting citywide climate change awareness. The campaign of Regina Romero is to reduce the carbon emissions of vehicles in the city by fifty percent.
