Bernie Sanders Reaches Historically High Number of Donations
Senator and long-time political figure, Bernie Sanders is a top candidate in the upcoming presidential elections in 2020. He is a front runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, and his supporters are shelling out the big bucks to help push him into the White House.
When it comes to the total number of donaters for any candidate's presidential campaign leading up to the 2020 elections, this long-term, experienced, and Vermont-favorite senator has grossly exceeded his opponents.
According to a statement released by Senator Bernie Sanders' campaign team on Tuesday, his campaign had already received more than four million individual donations from supporters from all over the country. This has placed Sanders in the history books as being the only candidate to acquire such a large amount of donations in such a short period of time.
"Working-class Americans across the country are chipping in three dollars, 18 dollars, 27 dollars, or whatever they can to help elect Bernie Sanders because they know he is the only candidate who will fight for them and take on corporate greed and corruption. This is what momentum looks like," said Faiz Shakir, the campaign manager of Senator Bernie Sanders.
This is the second time that Senator Bernie Sanders will be running for the top position in the government of the most powerful country on earth. His 2016 campaign for the presidential election did not reach 4 million donations until the New Hampshire primary in February.
Senator Bernie Sanders' announcement of running for president in the 2016 elections was announced in April 2015, unlike this year which he did much earlier. He had announced he's running for the presidency in the 2020 election in February of this year, obviously eager to oust Donald Trump, and help the Democratic National Party regain control of the White House.
Just like his contender Senator Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts, Sanders is primarily relying on small amounts of individual donations to fund his presidential campaign. From July 2019 - September 2019-the third quarter of the campaign's fundraising-Sanders had acquired roughly 25.3 million dollars. This amount was considerably more than the estimated value by Senator Sanders' campaign team as the donations were pouring in from his 1.4 million supporters.
How are the other candidates fairing?
Joe Biden, the former Vice-President of the US and a rival to Sanders and other presidential candidates in the 2020 elections, has acquired a total funding of 15.2 million dollars in the third quarter of the year.
Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana has acquired 19.1 million dollars of total funding for the third quarter.
Is there ever too many donations?
According to the former Governor of Massachusetts Deval Patrick of the Democratic party, he will not turn his back on the super PACs that desire to provide support for his campaign in the 2020 elections.
"If there's a super PAC that supports you, you're not going to tell them to stop?" asked by Chuck Todd of NBC.
Former Governor Deval Patrick of course answered 'no' to the question.
The announcement regarding the total donations received by Senator Bernie Sanders was made during the fifth round of the debate of the Democratic presidential nominees held in Atlanta, Georgia.
It should be noted, however, that the results of the fundraising of the candidates does not always equate with victory in the elections. On the other hand, it certainly doesn't hurt.
