Rosalia to Perform at Grammys 2020
Rosalia is nominated for two Grammy Awards and the first artist to be nominated as Best New Artist for performing entirely in Spanish, according to a published article in Remezcla.
Rosalia Vila Tobella, popularly known as Rosalia, is a Spanish songwriter and singer. She is known for her modern interpretations of flamenco music and she has also worked with several international artists.
Rosalia has become a certified pop star since last year. In the fall of 2018, she had just released El Mal Querer, her second studio album, which is based on the first-ever novel, Flamenco. Since then, she has been working with several international artists like Travis Scott, J Balvin, Ozuna, and James Blake. She is also worked with Kylie Jenner and Hunter Schafer.
This time, she is nominated for two Grammy Awards and is making history being the first artist to be nominated as Best New Artist for performing entirely in Spanish. Grammy.com posted in their website, "Best New Artist contender, Barcelonan nu-flamenco queen Rosalía, makes history as the first nominee in the category that performs completely in Spanish," Moreover, she is also nominated in Best Latin Rock, Urban, or Alternative Album for "El Mal Querer."
Her success in the music industry became emblematic of Spanish-language music which dominated most of the music streaming charts like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and more. It can also be recalled it was reported in Latin Post that Latino and Hispanic music dominated most of the music streaming platforms including outside the United States.
Along with her success is her unexpected collaborations with international artists like Sebastian Yatra and Jonas Brother, the novelty singles, Black Eyed Peas, and J Blavin.
In 2019, the singer won big during the Latin Grammy Awards. She won the Album of the Year for her El Mal Querer and is the first solo performer to win the award after 13 years. She also received the Best Latin during the MTV Music Awards together with J Balvin in their collaborative song "Con Altura."
However, her success in the music industry became controversial because she is making Spanish language music and some have categorized her as a Latina artist which has not well sat with the Latino people because Rosalia is Spanish.
Moreover, 2020 is a year that everyone must look out for in her career. Aside from Grammy Awards nomination, she is also nominated in The iHeart Radio Music Awards and Premio Lo Nuestro 2020. She is also expected to perform during the Grammy Awards along with some international artists. Her success in the music industry is expected to help Latinos and Hispanic's shape and change the mainstream of music in the United States.
This is also a year that we should look for Latin and Spanish music. They have been dominating the different music platforms since last year and the rise of Latino and Hispanic artists like Rosalia is enough to prove that they can change the paradigm of music in the United States. Rosalia's impact in the music industry is a great achievement for the Latino and Hispanic communities.
