The Biggest Design Flaw in Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
It's official! Samsung has just unveiled its flagship phone this year which features more advanced specs compared to its previous series. Samsung is a giant company that produces high-tech devices and appliances but they are known for producing high-end smartphones.
In the previous year, Samsung has released 11 million units of smartphones. This is just a drop in the bucket, compared to the estimated 350 million units of smartphones released by different phone companies including Apple last year.
This year, Samsung once again made headlines in different news outlets after it announced and unveiled on Tuesday the new Galaxy Z Flip in San Francisco. This is a foldable phone that forms a perfect square when folded and it has an ultra-thin glass screen. However, it is not its specs or its camera features that caught the attention of the reviewers but its the shiny $1,380 case that can catch more fingerprints compared to other phones.
During the Galaxy Flip Demo at the Palace of Fine Arts, it was found out that the phone is an absolute smudge magnet. The demo phones were placed and each Samsung employee has a microfiber cleaning cloth who cleaned the Galaxy Z Flip phone after it was touched.
Moreover, Galaxy Z Flip is also compared to the Motorola Razr which is also prone to smudges. However, the Galaxy Z Flip beats the Motorola Razr when it comes to collecting fingerprints though Razr is made up of Gorilla Glass 3, stainless steel, and plastic.
This has been a regular issue with Samsung phones. The Samsung Galaxy line features smartphones made of glass which made these phones look more sleek. Yet as beautiful as it looks, glass is not a smart design as it is pretty susceptible with smudges.
Vanessa Orellana-Hand, CNET Senior Editor was not impressed with the Samsung Galaxy Flip Z's finish: "I don't think the finish is any worse than the regular, previous-gen Galaxy phones."
On the flip side, the Galaxy Z Flip will definitely hit the market because it is user-friendly. It can fit in a small pocket most especially when it is folded. It has a 6.7-inch screen, but a dimension of 87.4 x 73.6 x 17.3 mm once folded and because of its compact size, it is very handy.
But it's high-end price also comes as a downside too. Samsung Galaxy Flip Z retails at $1,380 but compared to Samsung Galaxy Fold, which amounted to $1,980, it's still considerably cheaper. Nevertheless, the hefty price is making a lot of customers hesitant. If you're one of those who are thinking whether this phone is really for you, try testing it first in person instead of just ordering it right away online.
The phone arrived in the market during Valentines' Day. Consumers and buyers compared it to other foldable devices and they found this more convenient. You can also check this out on Amazon
