The Latin American Music scene is as vibrant as ever as it celebrates the first-ever Spotify Awards on Thursday in Mexico City.

According to an article by Billboard, the artists who dominated the awards include Bad Bunny, J Balvin and Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizárraga, Karol G, among others.

Bad Bunny took home the highest number of wins in top categories such as Spotify artist of the year and most-streamed male artist. Meanwhile, Banda MS won as the most followed artist and Karol G most-streamed female artist.

According to the music streaming service, the winners are based 100 percent on the user-generated data or the patterns and listening habits of Spotify users in Mexico.

Highlights of the awarding ceremony include showstopping performances by J Balvin and the Black Eyed Peas who sang their crossover hit "Ritmo," Karol G, who performed "Tusa," and Los Ángeles Azules who took the stage to sing classic cumbia songs with artists like Belinda, Horacio Palencia and Lalo Ebratt.

Reik, Piso 21 and Cazzu also made appearances.

In a previous media statement, Mia Nygren, Managing Director of Spotify Latin America said the awards is dedicated to all Spotify users of Mexico.

"Thanks to streaming and the true audience size of Mexico, users are in the front seat like never before. We decided to celebrate this by recognizing what users love based entirely on their listening. The Spotify Awards is all about this, giving everyone an opportunity to be part of the show."
