The Origin of the Text Message

The text message claims that it had originated from a friend working in the military. It advised people to get as supplies to last them for two weeks of national lockdown. The text message even requested its receiver to forward the message to their friends.

It is still unknown if there are still criminal investigations on the circulating fake text message.

Invoking The Stafford Act and Declaring a National State of Emergency

President Donald Trump had invoked the Stafford Act on March 13. Also, he declared a national state of emergency due to the spread of the coronavirus in the US. However, there is no official announcement from the president declaring the enforcement of a national quarantine.

The act lets the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) lead the collaboration with the administration of disaster relief aid to local and state governments.

According to Doctor Anthony Fauci, the United States' top expert on infectious disease, had said that the US citizens need to exert extra efforts compared to their current acts to protect themselves against the deadly virus. This means that the option for the implementation of a 2-week national quarantine is not closed.

Cooperating with the Prevention of the Spread of the Virus

According to Fauci, every citizen of the country should observe social distancing seriously. He shared how his decision not to visit a restaurant and other crowded areas. He doesn't want to be in a situation where he will be asked to isolate himself from the world in the following 14 days. 14 days is the maximum number of incubation days for people who had showcased symptoms of the deadly disease.

The CDC advised everyone to cancel mass gathering activities and events with at least 50 attendees. They suggested to cancel or avoid going to this type of event in the following eight weeks. This helps control the spread of the deadly coronavirus. However, events conducted under the guidelines provided by the governing authorities are allowed, says the CDC.

This recommendation from the CDC does not apply to any educational institution. This recommendation aims to help reduce the entry of dangerous coronavirus in new communities. Also, it targets to slow down the spread of the coronavirus in already infected areas.

There are already at least 3,370 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 in the United States with 69 fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University. There were already 12 patients of the deadly virus who recovered.
