It was reported recently the efforts of Amazon in helping ease difficult situations caused by the COVID-19 crisis.

Opening 100,000 Jobs

Amazon had recently announced its plans to hire 100,000 more staff to meet the increasing demand of online shoppers, says a blog. They aim to provide jobs to those who have lost their jobs due to the numerous quarantine and lockdown orders in different parts of the country.

Also, they aim to help secure the safety of their employees as they carry out their duties. They are also prioritizing to provide PPE for their on-site employees to protect them from the COVID-19.

SCAN

Amazon had partnered to help researchers from Seattle to carry and deliver test kits for COVID-19, says an article.

The research efforts are supported by the Gates Foundation. The research effort is named the Seattle Coronavirus Assessment Network or SCAN.

The researchers of SCAN aims to discover how the deadly disease is spreading in the different demographic regions. The research may provide light on how the deadly novel coronavirus pandemic will likely progress.

Testing in the United States of America is still limited and many regions in the country it is still restricted.

Amazon Care: Delivering the Test Kits to People

Amazon Care is a service offered by Amazon to provide medical care to employees. Currently, Amazon Care is assisting the company with logistics and delivery services.

It will be the one to deliver the test kits to people who believe are symptomatic to the COVID-19. Also, it will be delivering the kits to those who are sick.

Amazon Care will also be the one to pick up the kits for analysis. If the swabs are found out to be positive for the novel coronavirus, the patient will be contacted by a health-care agent.

The Limits of the Project

The research is limited only to Amazon Care. The service will not be covered by the entire Amazon group, says a spokesperson of Amazon Care.

All of the couriers of the kits are well-trained in handling medical material. The company will be distributing the kits to those who asked.

Teamwork

The response to the increasing issues from the COVID-19 crisis should be an effort of the entire community with support coming from public and private sectors, says the director of Amazon Care named Kristen Helton.

Helton expressed her admiration for the helpful efforts of the public health, global health sectors, and academic leadership leaders. Also, she shared the enthusiasm of the company to help improve the infrastructure and logistics systems of Amazon Care to provide support to the effort of these communities.

The Basis for the Study

The research is based on the efforts of the Seattle Flu Study. The Seattle Flu Study had made use of self-administered tests to trace the spread of the flu virus.

Those who are supporting the study are Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Children's Hospital, University of Washington Medicine, and Brotman Baty Institute.
