New Mexico’s Report Card on Social Distancing
New Mexico had shared to the public a report card it is using to grade its counties and the state as a whole on its compliance with social distancing guidelines, says an article.
The Rating for New Mexico
As of April 1, New Mexico was reported to have a C-rating on adherence to social distancing guidelines. According to Doctor David Scrase, the state is aiming for an A-rating in the report card. That goal will lower the total COVID-19 cases in the state, including hospitalization, Intensive Care Unit stays, and deaths.
The Report Card
The report card is provided by Unacast. It uses information from tens of millions of mobile phones from different households, devices, and persons without getting their complete identification.
After gathering information from mobile phones, it compares the distance traveled by every person before the pandemic and the distance they traveled on the current day.
If the results of the comparison results to at least 40% of the distance traveled in an area, then it gets an A-rating. If the distance traveled is not above 10% then it gets an F-rating. The grade ware later compared to the number of new COVID-19 cases in the area.
Making the Outcome of the Report More Accurate
The company understands that people can travel to places without having to meet with anyone. The company is continuously trying to improve its methodology to make more accurate reports.

New Mexico's Rating
Despite having a C-rating for the entire state, the different counties in New Mexico had attained different ratings. Bernalillo County had been given a B-rating. According to a resident, she said that she is not surprised if it was Walmart. However, she said that it will shock her if it were other places.
According to another resident, she is not surprised by the rating given to the states. She said that New Mexico is a smaller state. It is not similar to a bigger state like New York where a lot of stuff is going on.
Where Do You See the Worst Social Distancing?
According to many, they see the worst social distancing in grocery stores. Another resident of the state shared the story of how she witnessed people at the grocery store were so close to each other. She also noticed that the workers were not observing social distancing.
Another resident of the state also said that she went to Costco at different times and witnessed that there were a lot of people shopping.
Despite the numerous stores enforcing social distancing by providing markers at check out stands in stores, crowding is still being seen in many places.
The unacast report card does not ask permission from the people who do not want their phones to be used for data collection.
