Dominick Cruz Confirms Replacing Jose Aldo at UFC 250
Dominick Cruz versus Jose Aldo at the Ultimate Fighting Championship 250 is reported to have an obstacle.
According to a Globo report, Aldo had a problem renewing his work visa. He reportedly attempted to seek renewal of his visa at the U.S. Embassy in Brazil but to no avail due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Cruz appeared to validate via his Twitter account, his new opponent. With this, he "called out Henry Cejudo," the current bantamweight champion of UFC.
Specifically, Cruz tweeted, mentioning Cejudo's name Twitter handle, saying, "The real king has already been told" that they are fighting on May 9.
In addition to this, he also told Cejudo to "Bring your other tiny lil friend," mentioning the handle, "@cptdasamericas," adding, so he can slap them both around.
This American news personality has not had any a fight in the UFC since 2016 during the UFC 207, where he lost to Cody Garbrandt via decision.
Then, in 2019, he was arranged for a fight with John Lineker, but it didn't push through because of an injury.
Aldo Out, Cejudo In for UFC 250?
Even though UFC 250 already has a set date, which is May 9, the exact location of the fight remains unclear.
Cruz also appeared to have confirmed that Aldo is no longer fighting him for the said championship, Dana White, the current UFC President, has not officially announced if Cejudo is indeed replacing him.
Cruz has always been very vocal about how willing he is "in to fight with Cejudo" to get the UFC bantamweight title.
Recent developments transpired following reports that Aldo, Cejudo's supposed challenger, was already taken out of the battle.
Based on a story from Globo, the US work visa of Aldo recently expired, and the U.S. embassy in Brazil has not renewed the document due to the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Cruz is attempting to regain his bantamweight title in UFC 250's main event.
Initially, the competition was expected to have Aldo vs. Cejudo, but because of the pandemic, it won't be pushing through. Reports have it that the Brazilian is out of the game, and Cruz is set to battle against Cejudo for the title.
Cruz and Cejudo Calling Out One Another for Quite Some Time Now
For quite some time now, Cejudo and Cruz have already been calling out one another. The former even said, if Aldo can no longer fight on that date, he wants to have Cruz for his opponent, and this desire has been granted.
Incidentally, the latter has been experiencing "a plethora of injuries," although he is now healthy to go back to the Octagon. Also, the 35-year-old sports personality has remarkable wins over Joseph Benavidez, Urijah Faber, T.J. Dillashaw, and Demetrious Johnson, among others.
Cejudo, on the other hand, is coming off a TKO triumph over Marlon Moraes to fill in the bantamweight title, which is presently vacant. Before that, he knocked out Dillashaw in defense for his flyweight strap following the victory over Johnson.
