Dario Barrio Death Cause: 'Everyone Against the Chef' Host Died After His Parachute Failed
Dario Barrio, a Spanish television chef, died on Friday after his parachute failed during a wing suit jump.
The "Everyone Against the Chef" host collided with a cliff face during the "International Air Festival" in the Sierra Segura mountain range, according to The Independent.
A spectator captured the chef's last moments, which can be viewed on YouTube.
Reports said the death was parachute malfunction, but it is not stated as the official cause.
He was pronounced dead on the scene. Paramedics had tried to revive the 42-year-old chef.
The festival canceled all skydiving events after his death, and the organizers said they "deeply regretted" what happened. The organizers also said they would try to support Barrio's family.
The host also worked in restaurants located in many cities across the world, such as Zurich and London.
The father of two has been mourned on social media sites. Paco Roncero, a chef, took to Twitter to say he was finding it hard to cope with the "loss of a great friend."
While comedian Miki Nadal said Barrio was "brave, funny, hardworking, generous and a fighter".
Barrio was the fifth of seven children, and he started cooking at 14. He went to school while he cooked at different restaurants in San Sebastian, Santander, Gerona and Madrid. He also studied in Europe and the United States for more than a decade.
Dassa Bassa, the restaurant owned by Barrio, has yet to make a public statement.
The chef was believed to be an experienced sky diver, and he became a household name after appearing on TV. He received many accolades for his cooking, and he was known as a proponent of healthy eating and balanced diets. He was into exercise and had even participated in the New York City Marathon.
