Skype's iPhone app is about to get a lot faster and more responsive. Microsoft said it will soon be launching the new version of the iPhone app soon.

Skype 5.0 will feature improved group chatting, be easier to navigate and will include notification syncing across multiple devices.

When a Skype user sends a message to someone and they read it on another platform like XBOX or their PC, it will also be shown as "read" on the iPhone app.

A Skype user will notice smoother scrolling and easier navigation, making switching between conversations, contacts and menus will be a more seamless process.

Group chatting will be easier as well. A user can start a group chat from the main page of the app.

"The new Skype for iPhone is redesigned to put your conversation at the center of a faster, smoother and far more integrated experience. Our designers and engineers have obsessed over every pixel," Microsoft wrote in a blog post.

A favorites tab will allow you to see big icon pictures of the people you talk to the most right on your Skype home screen.

With iOS 8 expected to have some new notification features, Skype is waiting to see how that will effect the way notifications work on their app.

The release of Skype 5.0 for iPhone will come next week, and the iPad version is said to be coming soon as well.

Skype is boasting this app will be five-times faster than the previous version. The company also said the battery impact on iPhone will be less thanks to improvements made.

It makes sense that Skype is making improvements on its app. With Apple making improvements on its iMessage service and Facebook getting more involved in the messaging sector, Skype knows it has to stay competitive.
