The lavish villa of the late Mexican drug lord Amado Carillo Fuentes or known as the "Lord of the Skies," is now auctioned for $2 million according to a recently published article.

Who was Amado Carillo Fuentes, aka "Lord of the Skies?" 

One of the most powerful drug lords in Mexico during the 1980s and 1990s was Carillo Fuentes. He was born in the northern state of Sinaloa and was the nephew of one of the founders of Guadalajara Cartel on which he joined later on. 

He got his name as the "Lord of the Skies" because he used his knowledge in flying planes to smuggle drugs. He started smuggling marijuana but later shifted his focus to smuggle cocaine from Colombia through Mexico then to the United States.

It was his uncle, Ernesto Fonseca Carillo, one of the leaders of the Guadalajara cartel who taught him about drug dealing business. He was assigned to oversee the drug shipments of the cartel.

When he joined the Juarez Cartel, he killed his boss Rafael Aguilar Guajardo then took control of the group. He was known as a ruthless drug lord. 

He always made sure that he kept out of the public eye, and he was rarely photographed. During his time, he owned several planes and weapons. It was also estimated that his earnings during his career amounted to $25 billion.  

Moreover, because of his money, power, and influence, he even planned to expand his career in the United States.  

Was He Arrested? How did Carillo Die?

However, this eventually did not happen anymore because the U.S. and Mexican authorities made efforts to arrest him. To hide from being arrested, he decided to undergo extensive plastic surgery into a Mexican hospital under a false name.

One of the procedures done to him was liposuction. Unfortunately, he died due to complications during the operation. There were rumors at that time that he was still alive, to answer this issue, authorities decided to release his horrifying photos that were almost unrecognizable.

The surgeon, Dr. Jaime Godoy Singh, and two other doctors who carried out the surgery were found dead in a very gruesome manner. It was believed that the members of Carillo killed them. They were stuffed into an oil drum and was covered in concrete.

Carillo's Lavish Villa Is Being Auctioned for $2 Million

It is not a question anymore if why Carillo has a lavish villa and other properties. The Mexican government has now auctioned Carillo's lavish villa in Mexico City. The proceeds of the money will go to the country's public health service in its fight against COVID-19.

The house measures 3,500 square meters and has a swimming pool, a jacuzzi, a bar, a wine cellar, extensive gardens, and a little playhouse for the children.

Indep hoped to sell it for $2.17 million, but there was only one bidder of the lavish and luxurious property. The bidder was from Alvaro Obregon, who fell short of the desired amount.

Aside from Carillo's property, other properties were auctioned during that day include 70 cars, five planes, five homes, and more than 100 items of jewelry. The said auction has raised an amount of $4.5 million.
