Selena Gomez Is Looking to Help People Appreciate Their Flaws With New Makeup Line
Rare Beauty, the makeup brand of Selena Gomez, will be launching in the summer. Gomez is looking to hire a director of social impact. The job position includes the celebration of the uniqueness of Rare Beauty through social media. Also, the director of social impact will be tasked to encourage everyone to love themselves, says a recent article.
Mental Health Struggles
Gomez had been opened about her struggles on mental health. Additionally, she had sung about her experience with anxiety and depression through a duet in 2019 with singer, Julia Michaels. Also, she had recently spoken with Miley Cyrus about her bipolar disorder.
According to Scott Friedman, the CEO of Rare Beauty, when they were talking about the project, Selena Gomez focused on how the brand can help those who are struggling with something.
The Impossible Standards
Gomez posted on Instagram about 'the beauty myth' and the terrible standards of beauty that women are being forced to follow. Also, she spoke about how the pressure placed on women to live up to those standards is significantly affecting their mental health and self-esteem, Friedman added.
The New Position
According to Friedman, the director of social impact will help make conversations involving the many aspirations and passions of Selena Gomez, such as mental health, beauty, and self-acceptance.
The new positions will significantly help Selena Gomez and her team in making actions and support mental health awareness. This is possible if a leader will solely be centered on this responsibility. It is an essential part of making the brand internally and externally accountable, Friedman added.
Making a Difference
Gomez and Friedman want to unite policymakers, organizations, philanthropists, and brands that are also focusing on helping raise awareness and support to mental health.
According to Selena Gomez, the main idea is to create "a positive difference in the world."
According to Gomez, they have always planned to get someone to lead that mission. However, she believes that now is the right time to get a person to fill the position. The reason is that more and more people's mental health is being affected by the Coronavirus pandemic, and they are expressing this experience.

Tackling Mental Health
According to Friedman, there are still hesitations in talking about mental health.
A lot of people are hesitating to openly speak about their difficulties because it is foreseen as a flaw or a weakness, says Friedman.
In the beauty industry, people are made to think that makeup helps them to copy models, influencers, and celebrities because it helps cover up imperfections. However, makeup has the power to celebrate originality.
According to Friedman, natural beauty and mental health are becoming more open. However, the expectations and pressures of society are still present. Rare Beauty's goal is to help people appreciate their uniqueness and not see them as flaws.
