'Brown Love' Lets You In On Comedy, Culture, and Everything Latino
Get ready to sit on the couch for hours and check out Brown Love, a podcast specially dedicated to the Latino community. After a successful first season turnout, Netflix's Con Todo has started the premiere of new episodes of the podcast available on all platforms on May 5.
Brown Love's Inspiration
Brown Love features the events and experiences of the diverse and energetic Latino culture. Once a mere fictional podcast that the neighborhood in the dramedy Gentefied listens to, Brown Love has now become an actual podcast that we can all enjoy.
Dascha Polanco
Dascha Polanco--the familiar beauty from Orange Is the New Black, Russian Doll, and When They See Us--will host the podcast. Before the premiere, Polanco expressed her excitement for having the opportunity to share her experiences and learn from her community.
"I am part of this podcast because I have a lot to say and learn and many minds to reach. For far too long, our existence has been omitted and misunderstood," said Polanco, "so it's time to catch up! I am excited to highlight Latin excellence and learn more from my fellow Latinx community."
Brown Love, First Season
The first six episodes of Brown Love featured Netflix stars, who talked about a variety of topics including Afro-Latinidad, machismo, and self-care. Comic relief added to their discussions on their experiences gave the podcast quite a fun energy.
The first episode featured Polanco's Orange Is the New Black costar Selenis Leyva and Gentefied's Julissa Calderon. They talked about inclusivity and colorism in the Latino community and what it meant to be Afro-Latina and Dominican-American in Hollywood.
In the next episodes, Polanco welcomed several guests and carried on an exciting show. She talked to Gentefied's JJ Soria and On My Block's Julio Macias to talk about machismo in the Latino community while touching their vulnerable side.
Polanco also opened her space to cultural practices as Gentefied's Annie Gonzalez cleansed the space and read tarot cards, and On My Block's Jessica Marie Garcia also sat down to talk about tapping into your divine power. Garcia also shared some of her struggles to be seen in Hollywood.
The podcast, later on, upgrades its comedy game with The Office's Oscar Nuñez and Gentefied's Carlos Santos to talk about bilingual comedy. They also jokingly criticize political candidates who try to speak Spanish to win the Latino community's vote this upcoming election.
Brown Love also tackles more about diversity as On My Block's Jason Genao, and Gentefied's Karrie Martin talk about their lives as being 'third-culture kids' and what it was like growing up in a foreign community.
Towards the end of the season, Polanco invites someone close to her heart as she, and Orange Is the New Black's Diane Guerrero, look back to their time together on the show.
The first season ended on March 31 but returned after a little more than a month to give us more exciting content.
