Cuba's biotech and pharmaceutical sector the country's pride in its healthcare system. During the 47-year reign of Fidel Castro from 1959 to 2006 as the country's leader, he was able to invest great support to the pharmaceutical and biotech sector of the country. 

With his goal for the improvement of the healthcare system of the country, Cuba was able to transition into a country that produces drugs and medication for its citizens. It means that cost of medicine and vaccines to cure illnesses is minimized because they don't need to import and shipping normally entails costs and other additional expenses.

Many other countries are already putting faith in the drug to cure COVID-19 or lessen the rate of fatality of those suffering from COVID-19. However, there is still no proof that it is a cure for the deadly illness caused by the virus called SARS-CoV-2. It means that the drug will still need to undergo additional tests and research to become an official treatment for COVID-19.
