Is Mexico’s Postponement of Beer Production Affecting US Beer Supplies?
According to an article, some beer products that are hugely produced and sourced from Mexico to the United States of America will be facing shortages in U.S. stores soon as the temporary closure of the beer production industry continues.
Some of the beer products that may be encountering shortages in the United States soon include Heineken products such as Bohemia and Dos Equis Tecate. Also, Constellation Brand's beer products such as Corona beer, Pacifico, and Modelo Especial are at risk of reaching shortages soon.
Mexico's Beer Production Industry
The coronavirus pandemic had significantly affected the beer production industry in Mexico. Also, the impact of the postponement of beer production companies in the country is not only felt in Mexico but other nations where the country supplies beer products.
Based on an article, Heineken had opened its biggest beer production building in Mexico in January. During that time, the company had opened more or less 2,000 jobs for Mexicans. However, due to the entry of the novel coronavirus pandemic in Mexico, those which were classified by the country as a nonessential business were ordered to postpone the operation. Unfortunately for beer lovers, the beer production industry was deemed a nonessential business activity in the country. It means that beer-making facilities in Mexico are among the businesses that were asked by the country to temporarily close. Heineken is one of the beer producers in the country that decided to postpone all of its operations in the country amid the closure of nonessential businesses order in Mexico. This move had affected not only the country but also other nations that source their beer supply from Mexico such as the United States.
Another company, the Constellation Brand, had announced in April that it will be reducing its beer production after Mexico declared that the beer brewing industry was one of the businesses classified as nonessential. Although it did not stop its production, it had significantly reduced its beer production levels. It may be the seen reason why beer products from this brand will be facing shortages in stores, not only in Mexico but in other countries, soon.
Mexico Can Brew Again
Those who fear for beer shortages should not worry anymore because beer productions in Mexico will resume next week in places where COVID-19 cases are under manageable levels, says an article.
Shortages for Heineken Products
Unlike the Constellation Brand that only reduced its beer production operations in Mexico, Heineken USA did not do the same. Since Heineken postponed all of its beer brewing operations in Mexico, there will be shortages of some of their beer products soon in the United States and some may not be available in some stores in the United States, says an article.
