Trump Refuses Paycheck, Donates it to the HHS: How Much Did He Donate?
President Donald Trump donates his first-quarter salary to the Department of Health and Human Services, according to a recently published article.
Trump's Net Worth
Trump was already wealthy before he became the President of the United States. He is a multi-billion man owning different businesses mainly from the real estate. He is also the first billionaire president in the country according to Forbes.
Today, Trump's net worth is estimated to be around $2.1 billion. A recently published article claimed that Trump has amassed his wealth on his businesses like commercial real estate, golf courses, residential real estate, hotel licensing and management, hospitality holdings, and more.
However, his net worth has dropped last month from $3.1 billion to $2.1 billion due to the global pandemic. His businesses like commercial real estate and golf courses were affected due to the nationwide lockdown.
Trump Donates His First Paycheck
Trump refused to receive his first paycheck this year and instead, donated it to the Department of Health and Human Services. This is to develop new coronavirus treatment and vaccines to combat the infectious and deadly virus.
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany announced on Friday that an amount of $100,000 will be donated to the HHS from the annual salary of Trump that worth $400,000. The announcement was made following the declaration of Trump for the churches as essential and should be allowed to reopen this weekend.
This is the second quarter that Pres. trump donated his salary in an effort to overcome the virus. It can be remembered that the then-Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham announced in March that Trump donated his salary from the final quarter of 2019 to HHS to work for the new coronavirus according to a report.
Moreover, when he first donated to the HHS the number of COVID-19 deaths in the country was just six, but today it has already reached more than 98,000 according to worldometers.
Other Donations of Pres. Trump
Trump also donated a portion of his salary to the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Office of Surgeon Hospital, National Parks Service, Veterans Affairs, and the Transportation and Education departments.
Judd Deere, White House spokesman, told a news outlet: "Today his salary went to help advance new therapies to treat this virus, but leave it to the media to find a shameful reason not to simply report the facts, focusing instead on whether the check is real or not."
Likewise, during the press briefing, McEnany told reporters on Friday, "Here is the check", while holding the check that features the president's bank account and routing numbers.
The President's move to donate a portion of his salary is also a call for other federal and state officials to do the same to help those who are in dire need most especially the poor.
The global pandemic has led many individuals to be furloughed and laid-off from their jobs. Many undocumented immigrants as well cannot access government services and cannot receive a stimulus check. This is the time that each and one should help to successfully defeat the devastation caused by COVID-19.
