U.S. Health Officials warned earlier this month about the second wave of COVID-19, Trump said he has no plans to shut down the country again according to a recently published article.

Updates on COVID-19 Cases in the United States

COVID-19 remains life-threatening across the globe. Without a vaccine, it will continue to infect millions of people and will claim the lives of thousands. As of today, there are more than 5.4 million COVID-19 cases and a death toll of more than 344,000, while more than 2.2. million have recovered across the globe according to worldometers.

Among the countries, the U.S. still leads the world with around 1.6 million COVID-19 cases and a death toll of more than 98,000 while around 446,000 have successfully recovered. This means that the U.S. has recorded around 31 percent of COVID-19 infections in the world.

Health Officials Warned for the Second Wave

The Centers for Disease Control Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield warned days ago about the second wave of COVID-19. He emphasized that the country needs to be "overprepared" for the next wave to control the number of infections and death toll.

Earlier this month, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country's top infectious disease expert and the Director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, warned that an "uncontrollable outbreak" will happen if the health and safety guidelines will not be strictly followed.

The second wave of COVID-19 is expected to have more infections and death toll will spike as the states in the country are now reopening their economy. This means that more people will be exposed to the potential carriers of the virus.

In fact, Former CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden warned also during the first week of this month that COVID-19 infections in the country have just begun. He also said that he is seeing around 30,000 deaths every day starting June 1 as the states reopen.

The top and leading health officials in the country are all giving the negative impact of the second wave. It will lead to a more financial and health crisis and putting more people at risk.

Pres. Trump Says "No Lockdown for the Second Wave"

Despite the warnings from the country's leading health experts, Pres. Trump does not plan to shut down the country again for the second wave of COVID-19. He said: "We're not going to close the country-we're going to put out the fires."

Trump announced this as the country continues to combat the new novel coronavirus that has recorded 25,000 additional or new cases of COVID-19 during that day. This adds up to the swelling 1.5 million cases in the country.

He also added: "Whether it's an ember or a flame, we're going to put it out. But we're not closing our country," This is despite the warnings from the health officials that the country is at high risk for the second wave.

The seasonal flu will start between late fall and early winter. This means that there will be more people who will be experiencing flu-like symptoms. If there will be a second wave at that time and there will be no strict measures like lockdown, health officials said that the country's healthcare system will be overwhelmed.
