McEnany: White House COVID-19 Task Force Will No Longer Brief Public Despite Over 2 Million Cases
White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said on Friday that the country's COVID-19 Task Force will no longer brief the public.
The White House or President Donald Trump's COVID-19 task force has not giving updates for weeks about the current situation of the country amid the global pandemic.
On Friday, Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said that the task force will no longer brief the public as the country is now heading towards states reopening according to a published article in Bloomberg.
The announcement was made even the number of cases in the country has already reached more than 2.3 million and still counting while the number of deaths has reached to more than 122,000 according to worldometers.
Why the Task Force Will Not Brief the Public Anymore?
This is supposed to be the time that the country's leading infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci and task force coordinator and epidemiologist Dr. Deborah Birx are going to brief the public every day as the number of cases continues to spike.
However, McEnany said that the reason why there was public briefing during the early days of COVID-19 it's because there is a need for the task force to announce their big decisions. But today, the country should move forward and focus as well in the states' reopening.
She also added that the task force is regularly reviewing the data and is in communication with the different offices of the governors.
She also explained that she will be the one to update the public about the Task Force and McEnany assured that she is always in communication with Dr. Deborah Birx.
When the Task Force Began Not to Appear in Public?
Dr. Anthony Fauci has not been seen in the White House and giving his briefing about COVID-19 since McEnany's arrival in May.
To be exact, the task force has not been giving a briefing for around seven weeks already. As mentioned, the main reason for this is that the country is now moving forward towards its economic or state reopening.
Does the White House Downplay the Deadly Virus?
Some speculated that White House specifically Pres. Trump is downplaying the impact and effect of the new coronavirus as he held his recent rally in Tulsa.
However, his campaign team clarified that they provided sanitizers and face masks to the attendees in the rally in Tulsa and in the upcoming rallies to be held by the party in their bid for the upcoming elections.
It can be observed that Trump has not worn a facemask publicly while McEnany also said on Friday that she's not planning to wear a facemask as well because she is tested regularly and she firmly believed that she is not posing any threat for virus contagion.
Meanwhile, the vaccine is still not available to eventually end the global pandemic that has brought negative economic impact in the country and compromised the healthcare system of other countries.
The Moderna will their final phase in July where it will be participated by thousands of individuals who tested positive for the virus. If the vaccine passed this last phase, this will be a game-changer.
