Trump to Sign Executive Order Prioritizing Skills Over Degrees in Fed Hiring
U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order (EO) that redirects the hiring process of the federal government in prioritizing applicants with skills rather than those who have university degrees.
Following the EO signed by Trump that expands the restriction of certain visas to make sure that Americans will be prioritized in getting the jobs in the country, the President is expected to sign another order that will re-structure the hiring process in the federal government.
The EO mandates the employers to prioritize hiring applicants who have skills rather than those who are degree holders.
According to Fox News, Trump is expected to sign the EO on Friday, instructing the federal government to take new directions in its hiring tactics.
Additionally, it was reported that this would also be brought up during a board meeting on worker policies.
Why Prioritize Skilled Applicants?
The President's daughter and White House adviser Ivanka Trump has recommended to the federal government, which employs more than two million workers, to re-strategize their recruitment and hiring process.
Ivanka said they need to modernize federal hiring by finding candidates with relevant competencies and knowledge, rather than simply hiring persons because of their educational background.
Moreover, the White House clarified that this does not mean that they are disregarding those who have degree holders, but they are also encouraging skill sets for jobs to be prioritized.
If the EO will be signed, the Office of Personnel Management will be tasked to execute the new directive to get more Americans back into work quickly.
It can be recounted that almost 45 million has already filed unemployment due to the closure of the businesses and this paralyzed the country's economy for almost two months.
It also cannot be denied that the country is still processing its economic recovery.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration is also encouraging to follow the same hiring process.
IBM, a company that produces and sells computer products, said that they started to hire 15 percent from non-traditional backgrounds to its workforce since last year.
Trump's administration strategy to employ those who could not afford a two or four-year degree will give a chance to people in underprivileged communities.
