Fans of the "Avatar" film will be happy to find out that there is a sequel on the way. The "Avatar" movie, directed by James Cameron, was a big science fiction hit, even out-grossing Cameron's 90s epic, "Titanic". Several major motion picture events have transpired since "Avatar" was first shown five years ago, including the "Batman" Trilogy by Christopher Nolan, the "Avengers" movie by Joss Whedon and his team, the Harry Potter movie franchise finale and "Toy Story 3". However, the historic sales record of "Avatar" has not been surpassed. The news about an "Avatar" sequel is certainly very exciting.

Cameron had hinted at making an "Avatar" sequel back in 2009, when he mentioned producing as many as three sequels for the film. To date, "Avatar" sequels 2, 3 and 4 have been confirmed by Cameron. Cameron will reportedly soon specify the exact date when the first "Avatar" sequal will be shown in summer 2015. He revealed that the third film in the franchise may have an autumn 2016 release date.

The Cast of "Avatar 2"

Expect to see the Australian actor Sam Worthington back in "Avatar 2." Worthington, who became known internationally for his "Avatar" role, has just declared his signing a contract for the subsequent film. He also revealed that he will continue his role as Jake Sully and will start shooting for the film this autumn. Sigourney Weaver and Zoe Saldana are also appearing in the next installment.

Cameron revealed that he wants Sigourney to be present for all three sequels, which he also intends to direct. He added that his working relationship with Sigourney dates back to 1985 with the film "Aliens." Cameron has said that they have remained good friends and have enjoyed working with each other. Sigourney will have a new character in "Avatar 2," one which is even more demanding. In an interview by The Boston Globe, Cameron said "We're both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration."
