You might be one of the persons, who is now looking for a job. Whether you are a new college graduate or was laid-off from your previous job, the course of applying a job has changed.

You have to adapt to the new virtual work, while dealing at the same time with a climate of economic uncertainty. Even though it is now normal to feel discouraged about your chances of getting a job or getting hired because of business closures, there are steps on how you can improve your chance of landing a job. Here are some of the tips that you can do in job hunting amid the global pandemic, according to MSN News:

1. Look for Growing Industries

Don't get stressed with the different news circulating about mass layoffs and hiring freezes. However, you also have to remember that there are more companies today that are hiring than firing due to the demand for workers who have digital skills.

Erin Lantz, a Seattle-based business executive and Harvard School of Business graduate, said many industries are busier today compared to the previous months. Examples of these companies are remote working platforms like Zoom and Slack. Try to consider also applying to food retailers like Target and Safeway.

2. You Have to be Flexible

Ryan Miller, a manager at career services company Employment BOOST, recommended to the applicants to be less picky in the role they are going to have. He also added to focus on finding a new position, where they will learn valuable skills. This will help them become a valuable candidate.

Do not disregard the position offered to you just because it looks different from the way you expected it to be. Any opportunities that are offered to you now will help you develop skills that you can use and apply in the future.

3. Grow Your Network

Communication is very important nowadays. You may not know, but one of your friends, relatives, former classmates, and others are looking for persons to work with them.

Cynthia Orduña, a career coach, said more than 80 percent of the new hires are coming from the referral. She also said to reach out to the people of your network.

Ashley Stahl, a career expert with SoFi, said in this time of unprecedented period of economic uncertainty and social distancing, it is important to reach out and connect with fellow graduates.

4. Highlight Your Remote Skill

Show to your profile that you can work remotely. This could be an advantage for you. Remember that many companies have shifted their business process from traditional in-person to online or virtual.

"Companies are trying new things they would have never considered in the past, such as 100 percent remote workforces. While some of this is challenging, it's also creating new opportunities for jobs and careers," Lantz said.

5. Tailor Your Resume

One important thing that you have to remember is not to send a generic resume. You have to tailor your resume based on the needs of the employers.

Reza Handley-Namavar, entrepreneur and founder of resume services firm Jobalytics.co., said 75 percent of the resumes are rejected because some companies are using a machine that filters application and look for keywords.
