Fort Hood has seen its fair share of soldiers' deaths in the past. This year gave the post a series of tragedies as one soldier after another turns up dead.
One of the most known deaths in Fort Hood is that of Latina soldier Vanessa Guillen. However, other than Guillen, there had been seven other Fort Hood soldiers, who died or were found dead since March.
One of them took his life after being the suspect to Guillen's disappearance form the base. Here is what we know of the tragic losses.
Mejhor Morta
From Pensacola Florida, Morta joined the army in September 2019, reported the Army Times.
His body was discovered on July 17 just 20 minutes away from Fort Hood. His body was identified by officials on July 21, reported The Sun.
Morta's battalion commander Lt. Col. Neil Armstrong felt "truly heartbroken" by his loss. "Private Morta was a great Trooper and this loss is felt by every member within our formation," he said.
Vanessa Guillen
Guillen is one that caught national attention after her disappearance in April.
The search for the 20-year-old small arms repairer ended when her remains were found on June 30 in a shallow grave. The army positively identified the body as Guillen.
The League of United Latin American Citizens president Domingo Garcia urged Latinas not to join the military with his claim that the army is "not protecting female soldiers".
Aaron David Robinson
Aaron David Robinson was identified as the main suspect in Guillen's disappearance. He killed himself in a confrontation with investigators, CNN reported
Guillen's family attorney said she planned to file a sexual harassment complaint against Robinson. There is now a sexual harassment investigation taking place to add to the murder investigation.
Gregory Scott Morales
Morales is a 24 year old private who went AWOL months prior, said a report from Fox News. Authorities believe foul play took place in the case.
According to Fox News, he was found in a field in Killeen, Texas on June 19.
"His life was taken too soon, and we appreciate his service to our nation," Maj. Gen. Jeffery Broadwater said in a statement.
Brandon Scott Rosecrans
Rosecrans was found dead on May 2018 in Harker Heights, Texas. Police are looking at his case as a murder after a gunshot wound was found on his body.
The army man's 2016 Jeep Renegade was found the day his body was found, and officials are investigating the burn as arson, reported CNN affiliate KWTX.
Freddy Beningo Delacruz Jr.
Delacruz was one of the three victims found dead with gunshot wounds at a Texas apartment complex, said a report from military news site Stripes.
The other victims in the triple suicide were a man and a woman who were later identified as Army veteran Shaquan Markell Allred and Asia Cline.
Christopher Wayne Sawyer
Sawyer, 29-year-old wheeled vehicle mechanic, was found unresponsive on March 5 in his Fort Hood residence, said the base's statement. There is no suspect of foul play but investigators had not ruled it out.
He joined the army in October 2017.
