Indiana Police Officer Helps 12-Year-Old Boy Run Lemonade Stand
An Indiana Police Officer helps a 12-year-old boy by running his lemonade stand and vows to personally match 100 percent of the proceeds the boy would make.
South Bend Police Officer Ron Glon was praised when he helped a 12-year-old boy who runs a lemonade stand in a community in South Bend. Aside from lemonade, 12-year-old Jaelyn Wilson was also selling popcorn and punch together with his four-year-old brother.
According to a published article in People, Jaelyn was shocked and surprised after Glon showed up at his lemonade stand on Sunday. The police officer offered help to the Wilson brothers that rarely happens nowadays.
Glon also vowed that he would match 100 percent of the proceeds or sales that Jaelyn and his brother will make that day. The 12-year-old boy was surprised and shocked when he heard it. He said he was out of words.
Meanwhile, Tina Wilson, the mother of the two boys, admitted that when Glon showed up at their lemonade stand, she was afraid and thought that something was wrong. At that time, she thought that they would be told to shut down their operation.
As she recalled and shared with the news outlet, she said: "I thought; 'Oh, we're in trouble!" However, she was surprised when the police officer told them that he wanted to help both physically and financially. She never expected that it would happen to them.
The police officer also told Jaelyn's grandmother, "Me and Jaelynn are going to be waiting on people, collecting money, serving drinks, and I'm going to match 100 percent of what we take in, out of my pocket." The cop did what he promised.
Throughout the day, Jaelyn and Glon served the customers in the parking lot and at the same time, they find time to have a football catch and get to know each other over a glass of lemonade.
One of the regular customers, who also happened to know Glon, said she was not surprised on what the police officer did. She said Glon was a sweet person. What happened was not a drama, Glon did it out of love and with sincerity.
Jaelyn said he will treasure the experience forever. He said, "It came to my heart and I thought of him [as] a family member because it really meant a lot for a police officer to help somebody who they don't even know."
Jaelyn said police officers normally do what they want to do, but then Glon came to support and help them.
Meanwhile, the police officer found out that Jaelyn was dreaming to turn his lemonade stand into a food truck, to buy a Nissan GTR, and to join the NBA someday. This act of kindness from a police officer is very important, especially now that there is a gap between the minorities and the Black. Seeing more police officers helping black people would somehow help end systemic racism in the country.
