Secret Service Agent abruptly escorted President Donald Trump out of a press briefing on Monday after a shooting incident outside the White House that involved an armed suspect.
A shooting incident occurred outside the White House on Monday that raised safety concerns of Pres. Donald Trump. A law enforcement officer shot an armed man, which occurred just minutes when Pres. Trump delivered his coronavirus briefing.
Following this, reporters inside were placed into lockdown and Pres. Trump was escorted by a Secret Service Agent when they heard the two gunshots. He immediately left the podium and exited the room together with other administration officials.
The President's security detail surrounded the West Wing to ensure the President and people inside the White House were safe. Luckily no one was hurt inside, and President Donald Trump administration officials remained safe.
Moreover, Pres. Trump returned to the podium 10 minutes after they were informed that someone had been taken to the hospital after the White House shooting incident. Trump calmed people inside, told them that someone has already been taken to the hospital.
According to a published report in The Guardian, Pres. Donald Trump said that law enforcement shot an armed man near the fence of the White House. The President did not give many details about the incident, but he thanked the Secret Service for making the people inside the White House safe.
Trump said, "I do want to thank Secret Service. They are fantastic. It seems that the person was shot by the Secret Service so we'll see what happens," Additionally, Pres. Trump described and called the incident "unfortunate."
Investigations about the incident are now moving, and the law enforcement officials were trying to determine the motive of the suspect that rased security alarm in the White House. The Secret Service described it as an "officer-involved shooting at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Ave".
The Secret Service Agency tweeted that a male suspect and USSS were transported to the hospital after the shooting incident. The agency also wrote, "At no time during this incident was the White House complex breached or were any protectees in danger."
Moreover, Pres. Trump added that he had not been taken to an underground bunker but to an area near the Oval Office. He also shared with the reporters afterward that he did not fear for his safety and showed confidence and trust in his escorts.
After Trump's remarks about the shooting incident, the discussion on Monday returned to the nation's economic response to the global pandemic. Pres. Trump touted his administration's achievements in combating the pandemic, including the executive orders he signed on Saturday.
He signed executive orders, including the expansion of federal unemployment claims, house eviction protection, freezing student loans, and delaying payroll taxes.
These are just a few of the actions decided by President Trump after Congress fails to take action on the second round of the coronavirus relief package.
