Melania Trump successfully redeemed herself after talking about COVID-19 and racial issues in a speech that was entirely her own during the 2020 Republican National Convention on August 25, at the White House Rose Garden in Washington DC.

Back in the 2016 convention, the former model-turned first lady was criticized for using almost the same lines from the speech of former first lady Michelle Obama in her speech.

Trump had initially received an enthusiastic round of applause after her 15-minute speech back then.

But, the applause turned to criticisms after it was pointed out that her speech had several lines lifted from Obama's 2008 speech.

Well-dressed as always, this time in a matching olive skirt and jacket cinched at the waist with a wide belt of the same color.

The first lady presented a picture of calmness as she proved herself capable of coming up with her own speech.

She delivered a 25-minute speech, the longest that she has spoken to the public as the first lady. 

CBC.CA reported that Trump was able to impart humility and gratitude to her audience when she said that there are no words to describe how honored, humbled and fortunate she is to be serving the nation as the first lady.

Trump's speech smoothly tackled two of the biggest political issues that are critical to her husband's reelection bid - the COVID-19 pandemic and the protests over police brutality and racial injustice.

And, she assured that President Donald Trump will be working harder for a much improved U.S. should he be granted a second term.

COVID-19 and Racial Issues

According to the NPR.org, Trump opened her speech by offering sympathy to people who have lost their loved ones to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She also assured those who are suffering from the disease that they are not alone in the fight.

Melania Trump was kindness and compassion as she acknowledged the anxiety that people are feeling amidst the pandemic, according to a Washington Post report.

As for the racial issues, Trump called on Americans to stand united in these difficult times. 

She urged them to stop using violence and looting in the name of justice. 

She also asked them to reflect on the racial injustices that have been part of the country's history.

She added that it is a harsh reality that they are not proud of.

Trump's speech was also aimed at reassuring American women who had voted for Donald Trump in 2016 but are now threatening not to support his reelection bid.

They are not satisfied with how the president has handled the COVID-19 pandemic and racial injustice issues.

President Trump has been criticized for his lack of public empathy in the face of those issues. 

And, his campaign party is acknowledging this offense through the first lady's speech and how she delivered it.

Aside from those two critical issues, Melania Trump also reached out to American mothers. 

She told them that she is also concerned about the children's exposure to social media and their use of technology.
