McConnell will Introduce Stimulus Bill Next Week, Mnuchin Says!
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin announced on Monday that Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will introduce a new stimulus bill next week.
The White proposed a relief aid worth $1.3 trillion recently. The said amount is the overall package for the stimulus bill that Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will hopefully introduce next week as the session resumes in the Capitol.
The White House and Republican lawmakers have been persistent in pushing for the second round of coronavirus relief aid to help the heavily impacted Americans in the country. They want to ensure that the stimulus bill will be passed before the government operation shuts down in October.
During an interview from a news outlet, Mnuchin was asked about the collapse of stimulus bill negotiations earlier this month and the stimulus bill's plan. The U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin answered that he and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows had been regularly communicating with McConnell to propose the stimulus bill next week.
Mnuchin said, "Hopefully Mitch will enter new legislation next week," This seems to be the last resort of the White House and Republican lawmakers to help millions of Americans through another stimulus bill. This is after Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi continues to reject the White House's relief aid proposal.
It can be remembered that the White House first proposed HEALS Act, but the negotiations over the provision of the bill failed after the top Democratic negotiators disagreed. The Republican then proposed a skinny bill, and it was again rejected. Recently, the White House proposed $1.3 trillion, but Pelosi seems not to accept it too.
However, despite the rejections of the stimulus bill proposal, the White House and Republican lawmakers never give up and will once again try to propose the relief aid next week. Meadows already said that Pres. Trump will immediately sign the stimulus bill once it is on his table to ensure that millions of Americans will have the help they need amid the global pandemic.
Meanwhile, Mnuchin slammed the top Democratic negotiators' House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. He accused them of not showing any interest to have the stimulus bill deliberated by lawmakers on the floor.
White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows attempted a week ago to meet with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to discuss the stimulus bill during a rare Saturday vote for mail-in funding. However, Pelosi's aide told him that the Democratic leader was in a meeting.
Additionally, Meadows even tried to personally call Pelosi to discuss the stimulus bill. Their talks lasted for 25 minutes, and it was first thought that Pelosi would agree with the proposed amount. However, later on, Pelosi said that she is not willing to have the stimulus bill be discussed on the floor. She is pushing for more amount.
The Democratic house Speaker has only two choices: to allow Congress to deliberate the second stimulus bill that will possibly help millions of Americans or not to discuss the stimulus package that will let laid-off and unemployed Americans suffer the financial impact of the pandemic.
