Hispanics in Florida Are More Likely to Vote for Trump
Hispanics and Latino voters in Florida are more likely to support and vote for President Donald Trump in the upcoming election, according to a new poll.
The Hispanic and the Latino community is the largest minority group in the country today. According to the Pew Research Center, there are around 32 million eligible voters in the country, followed by the African-Americans comprised of around 30 million.
A new poll in the must-win battleground state for the president showed that Hispanics and Latino communities in Florida are more likely to support and vote Trump in the upcoming election, as per POLITICO.
The Democratic Latino Firm, Equis Research, conducted the poll which showed that Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden leads the survey. However, the point advantage of Biden is still low.
It can be remembered that former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton also led the survey against Trump's in 2016 election, but she still failed during the actual election.
Biden leads Trump among Hispanics by 53-37 percent in the poll conducted for Equis Research, a Democratic Latino research firm. While his advantage seems large, Biden's 16-percentage point margin spells potential trouble for him because it's 11 points lower than what Hillary Clinton received in 2016 exit polls, when she lost the state to Trump.
The latest survey showed that Biden was 11 points lower than Clinton which simply means Biden's percentage point margin spells potential trouble for him.
It also revealed that Trump is running slightly ahead of his Hispanic performance in 2016 by about two points, showing he has a higher number of supporters among the Hispanics and Latinos. It was also found that Trump is slightly ahead among the Cuban-American voters.
One of the factors seen why Trump now leads in the survey is because Biden did little to get the support of the Latino and Hispanic voters in the state. It is no wonder why Biden responded by stepping up its Spanish-language outreach, spending more on TV, and hiring more staff to change the trajectory.
Carlos Odio, a co-founder of Equis, said that around 1,000 Hispanics were surveyed in Florida. The large sample size includes Latinos with roots in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Mexico, and other parts of Latin America.
Trump has been persistent in courting Hispanics and Latinos in the country. In fact, he made campaign advertisements that are in a language that all Hispanics and Latinos understand.
There are different coalitions that support his re-election bid. Last year, a group of Latinos created the "Latinos for Trump." They recently made different social media campaigns, calling all Latinos and Hispanics across the country to support Trump.
There were also some representatives or speakers from the Hispanic and Latino communities during the Republican National Convention.
Odio said: "Democrats would be wise to plan for a scenario where Hispanic vote share is lower than 2016 -- while still pushing towards the upper bounds of both support and turnout."
Biden's lack of political ads in the Spanish language could have resulted to the decrease of his number of Latin and Hispanic supporters.
The Biden campaign told a news outlet that they are now planning to improve their political advertisements in a language that majority of the Hispanics and Latinos understand to make sure that their message for the upcoming election will be easily understood by the largest minorities in the country.
Meanwhile, Trump leads in terms of the number of views both in television and online and has raised bigger funds during the convention compared to Biden.
