Trump Signs Executive Order to Give Americans Lower Drug Costs
President Donald Trump declared that he signed a new executive order that has a goal of lowering drug costs in the U.S.
On Sunday, President Trump took to his Twitter, stating that he signed a new executive order lowering drug costs in the U.S. by linking them to those of the other nations.
According to the Independent, critics of the healthcare system, such as Bernie Sanders, have denounced the fact that prescription medicine costs far more in the U.S. than in other nations. Besides, Trump often promises to take on big pharma, which benefits from the government not regulating prices, rather than many countries where government agencies are negotiating prices for every drug.
In February 2017, Trump's first speech to Congress's joint houses during the 2016 campaign, he stated that he would lower drug costs. Trump vowed to "bring them down immediately," which critics say he has not done.
In his tweet, President Trump wrote, "My Most Favored Nation order will ensure that our Country gets the same low price Big Pharma provides to other countries. The days of global freeriding at America's expense are over."

The Republican President added a follow-up tweet: "Also just ended all rebates to middlemen, further reducing prices."

This summer, Trump signed four executive orders that he claims would lower drug costs. These executive orders include allowing some drugs to be imported from Canada and make changes to the discounts negotiated by middlemen passed on to Medicare patients.
Last year, a report published by the House Ways and Means committee found individual drug prices in the U.S.ranged from 708% to 4,833% higher than the combined mean price in eleven other countries.
The U.S, drug prices were 3.7 times higher than the combined average of those eleven countries. Trump announced that the executive order aims to reduce drug costs to provide America the same low price big pharma gives to other countries," as per Fox News.
The Trump administration regularly placed drug costs at the heart of the administration's health policy. The other four executive orders signed in July covered several measures, like directing the Department of Health and Human Services, lowering the cost of certain drugs such as epinephrine and insulin.
The earlier executive order also targets to end a "shadowy system of kickbacks by middlemen." the orders focused on reducing costs for people on Medicare and elderly patients that require them to pay no more than any economically comparable OECD country."
The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is a measure that President Trump set to expand to other residents. The OECD is an intergovernmental economic group responsible for world trade. The new order's exact steps are not clear. However, the executive order will be fully outlined in the next few days, as per Fox News.
