FIFA World Cup 2014: Avoid World Cup Spoilers With These Two Apps
The FIFA World Cup 2014 has officially started, and with a couple of matches already under the belt, and with bosses undoubtedly starting to crack down on streaming the World Cup at work, a lot of people who use DVRs to watch the game after work will be wondering: How can I avoid World Cup spoilers?
At least while you're at work on a computer, use Australian television provider Fetch TV's application, appropriately called "Spoiler Spoiler." We can't guarantee that this handy tech add-on for Google Chrome and Firefox browsers won't stop friends and coworkers from spoiling the game, but it can block out the rest of the world on your browser.

With the entire world watching the World Cup and talking about it online, Fetch TV's Spoiler Spoiler is an extension for two of the most common web browsers across the globe that will block out any chance of getting results of soccer matches before the spoiler information reaches your eyes.
Here's their official promo and explainer video:
"Protecting fans who record the football."
Spoiler Spoiler scans every website you're visiting for names of countries, team names, and specific football terms. It will block these out before you get a chance to accidentally see them.
On top of that, you can customize Spoiler Spoiler with your country's colors, so that whenever the application blocks information on the web, it'll do it with team spirit.
It's important to note that Spoiler Spoiler is a browser extension, and it doesn't work for mobile. Also, right now Spoiler Spoiler is only available as a Chrome extension (get it here), though undoubtedly the top Fetch TV tech experts are tirelessly working around the clock to protect football fans who prefer Firefox (until then, just switch to Chrome if you're that passionate about your team).
Additionally, it's a browser extension, so while it will block out spoilers on social media webpages, it won't help you on Twitter or Facebook, or any other apps on your smartphone. These all evade Spoiler Spoiler's protective hand.
Avoiding Twitter and Facebook Spoilers
For social media, which will undoubtedly be hot with lots of World Cup chatter for the next month, there's another application for mobile to avoid spoilers.
It's called Spoiler Shield, and it's available for iOS, Android, and Google Chrome.
Spoiler Shield was developed by a sports fan who was tired of having the game ruined before he had an opportunity to watch it. It came into prominence last year, though, as a tool to avoid spoilers from Game of Thrones. The app blew up in popularity right after the "Red Wedding" episode (no spoilers: but those of you who have seen it, probably know why).
For the FIFA World Cup 2014, Spoiler Shield has a custom category already set up, and all you have to do is sign in with your Facebook and/or Twitter account, and tick the name of the country or countries that you don't want to hear about.
Spoiler Shield does the rest - albeit without using your custom country colors to block the spoilers.
Using these two spoiler blocking apps, you should be pretty well protected, except from phone calls and texts from your friends. With them, you're on your own.
