Blake Jenner Apologizes to Ex-Wife Melissa Benoist Regarding Domestic Violence
Blake Jenner broke his silence after fellow "Glee" alum Melissa Benoist revealed that she survived domestic violence.
Jenner shared a statement on Instagram on Thursday. He detailed his past marriage and said he was rooted in codependency that had dire consequences." Blake Jenner married Melissa Benoist in 2015. Unfortunately, in December 2016, Benoist filed for divorce.
In his post on Instagram, Jenner began it by saying that he wants to "address a personal situation made public in late-2019." the actor did not directly name Benoist in his statement. However, Benoist posted an Instagram video in November 2019 in which Benoist described her experience that a former partner physically abused her.
According to USA Today, they tried to reach out to Jenner and Benoist's representatives for a statement. Allegedly, Jenner admitted that he physically hurt a past partner.
"I take full responsibility and accountability for the hurt that I inflicted during my relationship with my past partner - emotionally, mentally, and yes, physically," wrote Jenner when he recalled a particular argument that turned into violence.
Melissa Benoist's ex-husband admitted that he mentally, emotionally, and physically hurt the Supergirl actress.
Jenner apologized in a lengthy statement on Thursday for his actions and insisted that the abuse went both ways. Jenner addressed a specific situation when he threw his cell phone to his partner that caused an injury to her eye. Although, the statement didn't name Melissa Benoist.
According to Daily Mail, the actor, 28, admitted that id indeed happened, and he always regretted it. Allegedly, Jenner' prohibited' from seeing friends when he had an emotionally abusive relationship. The scenario also made him pass on jobs because of physical assault and jealousy.
Aside from being scratched and punched, Jenner also stated that he went to the hospital for a broken nose over the face's alleged punch. The actor claims that he was also 'physically assaulted' in the shower and was left injured. However, Jenner declined to go into further details about it.
Since then, Blake says he has been working on those issues with a therapist. Jenner also addressed a statement to every victim of violence or any form of abuse. He apologized to those who have been triggered by the story.
"I stand with you as a victim myself. I repent for the abuse I inflicted as an aggressor myself, and vow to never retreat to losing who I am ever again." Jenner added.
Jenner's statement came nearly a year after Melissa Benoist, his ex-wife, first came forward with her story. Benoist revelations that time sparked outpouring support.
Melissa is now married to actor Chris Wood whom she shares her son Huxley with.
