Is Pelosi Making Another Excuse to Avoid Stimulus Deal? House Speaker Won't Settle for $1.8 Trillion Package
The White House has increased the amount of stimulus package for millions of Americans, but it seems that Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is always making an excuse to avoid the deal.
The White House has increased its offer for a stimulus package to $1.8 trillion and Pres. Trump said for multiple times that he is willing to give the amount that Pelosi wanted. In fact, Pres. Trump made it clear during an interview on Saturday that there will more than relief money before the election.
The stimulus negotiation is supposed to be sealed but Democratic House Speaker Nancy seems always to find ways to avoid coming to a deal.
She first asked for a larger stimulus, and the White House complied and gave it. Now, she is asking for additional funding which Pres. Trump and his administration also addressed.
Pelosi received mounting pressures from her party after she rejected the $1.8 trillion stimulus package that the White House offered. After the backlash, she then released a letter to the House Democrats. In her letter, she blamed the White House for not including funding for COVID-19 testing and contact tracing.
This is again another tactic of Nancy Pelosi just to delay the negotiation. In her previous negotiation with the U.S. Treasury Steven Mnuchin, she asked for a larger state and local funding that the Trump administration included in their newly proposed package.
However, in their series of talks, she never mentioned COVID-19 testing and contact tracing. She only discussed ad opened about it after Pres. Trump expressed his interest in a bigger stimulus. It is very clear that Pelosi does not want the stimulus to be signed into law before the election.
On Saturday, while Pres. Trump was in a radio interview and said that he wants to sign the stimulus bill as early as this week, Pelosi released a separate statement. She is giving the White House an ultimatum of 48 hours to come up with a stimulus package.
According to a published article in The Hill, Pelosi claimed that the White House made changes with COVID-19 relief aid. In her statement, she even used the largest minority group, the Latino community, as the heavily impacted race amid the impasse of the negotiation.
It is already a common knowledge to everyone that Pelosi cannot use the Latino community as a human shield to protect her from the backlashed she received from her party. Trump and his administration have been very serious in dealing with the economic and health problems of the community.
In fact, Pres. Trump met Latino business leaders across the country to listen to their needs. Additionally, Latino business leaders also expressed their support for Pres. Trump and they are impressed with how the administration addressed socialism.
Moreover, the White House is doing its best to make sure that a stimulus package will be signed into law before the election. Trump might sign a larger stimulus package or more than what Pelosi demanded.
If she will again decline or reject the offer and will have another reason not to approve it, then Trump's assumption that she does not have the intention to help millions of Americans will be proven.
