Texas Boy Dies After Shooting Himself at His Own Birthday Party, Officials Say
A Texas boy, 3, died of a gunshot wound after he accidentally shot himself in the chest amid his own birthday celebration, authorities said.
On Saturday, during the celebration of a toddler's birthday in Texas, he accidentally shot himself in the chest. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to the home in Porter, about 30 miles north of Houston, around 4:45 PM to conduct a welfare check.
According to Fox News, when the deputies arrived, they learned of the child's gunshot wound. As per the sheriff's office, the boy was rushed to a nearby fire station where he died of his injuries.
Authorities stated that the friends and families gathered earlier to celebrate the birthday of the 3-year-old boy. While playing cards, they heard a gunshot. The toddler was located with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Besides, the sheriff's office claims that an investigation identified that the child found a pistol after it fell out of his relative's pocket. It is yet not clear if any charges have been filed.
In sympathy with the family, the sheriff's office said, "Our prayers and thoughts go out to friends and family of this tragic accident."
In early October, Latin Post reported a toddler who had also killed himself with an apparent gunshot using a weapon he found in a bedroom drawer. The boy died as he shot himself at his family home in Oregon.
The authorities were called immediately to the aloha Oregon home following a report that a boy shot himself in the head. James Kenneth Lindquester, 3, got the handgun out of the bedroom table drawer and fired it on himself, family members told the police.
Although the child could be taken to the hospital, he later died, according to 7News. Jame's family did not immediately release a statement.
However, they have approved to provide a photo of the toddler. The scene where the incident happened was struggling to respond to, the detectives said.
"I think if you ask any first responder, the death of a toddler is the worst call that we go to," Shannon Wilde, Washington County Deputy, told KOMO News.
It is challenging, particularly for many parents who responded on the scene, wherein some of them have the same age as the little boy who died, the deputy added.
Although Jame's family didn't think twice to call 911 and rushed him to the hospital, the district attorney has the decision even if there have been no charges filed, deputies say.
Incidents similar to this are rare in Washington county, as per the fort responders, but when cases like it happen, they struggle to handle it.
Meanwhile, deputies urged gun owners to keep their firearms stored or even locked up from out of reach of children to prevent the same incident from happening again, Hawaii News Now reported.
