The United States still remains the country around the world with the highest number of infections and deaths. According to the John Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center, the country has recorded more than 9.1 million COVID-19 infections and over 233,000 deaths.

With the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in the country, John Hopkins said that one American tested positive for the virus while another one died every 107 seconds. These numbers are expected to increase without the availability of vaccines.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, whose state is seeing one of the nation's worst outbreaks, said "There's no way to sugarcoat it: We are facing an urgent crisis, and there is an imminent risk to you, your family members, your friends, your neighbors and the people you care about."

Meanwhile, infectious disease expert and a professor at the University of South Carolina Melissa Nolan also warned that the country may experience more number of cases as the winter approaches. She even said that it will be a crucial season in the country.

Nolan told USA Today "We might see a larger surge due to the pandemic fatigue Americans are experiencing. Americans are tired of adhering to public health guidelines and getting tested," Moreover, she repeated that people still need to practice COVID-19 measures.

Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the World Health Organization's emergencies program, said this week that everyone will get through this global pandemic. He also reminded that for us to pass this pandemic, there is a need to sacrifice in terms of their personal lives.

Some experts agree and suggested that a national lockdown might allow a "reset" for states that are severely affected by the pandemic. This will help to reduce the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and deaths. However, this is unlikely to happen given the political situations in the country.

Robert Glatter, an emergency physician at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, said "A national mandate from the federal government for universal masking is more likely to achieve the greatest impact to reduce deaths in the next several months."

It can also be remembered that the country's infectious and disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci has already urged for a federal mask mandate. He said this after many Americans still continue to wear a face mask as part of the COVID-19 measures.

On the other hand, Wisconsin state officials have already urged their residents to stay at home and avoid social gatherings. This is despite the legal orders and restrictions that state governor ordered to fight the spread of the infectious and deadly COVID-19.

Ryan Westergaard, chief medical officer for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, asserted "It's a nightmare scenario, frankly, that this could get quite a bit worse in the next several weeks or months before it gets better," The next months will be a big challenge for the country if the set COVID-19 measures will not be followed.
