Lori Loughlin Starts Jail Sentence in College Admissions Scam
Lori Loughlin began her two-month imprisonment after committing fraud as part of her role in a sprawling college admissions scandal.
On Friday, the American actor Lori Loughin starts her jail sentence following the conspiracy to commit fraud she previously admitted.
Loughlin, who is best known for her role in the 1980s hit sitcom Full House as Aunt Becky, reported to a low-security federal camo in Dublin, 30 miles east of San Francisco.
The actor and Mossimo Giannulli, her husband, were among some 50 individuals indicted over a huge scan to secure spots for privileged children at the prestigious U.S.universities.
The Felicity Huffman of the famous Desperate Housewives, released in October, serves the same prison. Huffman serves 11 days of a two-week sentence for her role in the scam.
Meanwhile, Loughlin had been ordered to surrender to the U.S.Bureau of Prisons prior to November 19. Besides, she faces two years of supervised release, 100 hours of community service, and a $150,000 fine. In August, Loughlin and Mossimo were sentenced by a federal judge.
The couple admitted they paid $500,00 to gain admission at the University of Southern California for their two daughters. They are recruits to the rowing crew team, as per The News.
Among the most high-profile personalities indicted in the case, Loughlin initially denied the allegations for more than a year. However, she apologized for her part before sentencing.
Loughlin said she is ready to face the consequences and make amends. She and her husband were spared from much stiffer sentences. The pair's original charges carried penalties of up to 45 years behind bars.
The scandal involves 55 people who have also been charged. Among the involved people, 41 pleaded guilty and received punishments of less than a few months in jail.
Huffman admitted to paying $15,00 to boost her daughter's SAT college entrance exam score during a tearful court appearance.
William "Rick" Singer, the ringleader behind the college admissions scam, who authorities said was paid almost $25 million to pay off university administrators and coaches, pleaded guilty and is waiting to be sentenced sometime next year.
Loughlin's daughters shattered
The News International reported that earlier on Saturday, Lori Loughlin began her sentence in the college admissions scandal after pleading guilty.
The Full House star's daughters Olivia and Bella felt 'distraught' after having farewell to their mom before the holiday season, according to E! News.
A source told E! That Loghlin's daughter was saying goodbyes before she headed off.
"It was a big moment for their family, and everyone was agitated. Although the girls knew it was coming and that they had time to prepare, it's still disappointing to see their mom go," the insider added.
Olivia and Bella are distraught, but they are still grateful that Loughlin will only serve two months. However, Loughlin's daughter knows that they will have a challenging holiday season this year.
