Nevada Dad Enraged With Cheating Partner, Throws Infant From Balcony Then Sets Apartment on Fire
A Nevada man identified as Clarence Edward Martin, 32 years old, threw his 2-month-old baby from the 2nd floor balcony then set their apartment on fire afterwards.
A tragic incident occurred in a Las Vegas apartment in Nevada after Martin endangered the life of his infant by tossing him from the 2nd-floor balcony. Following it, he set their apartment on fire and told his daughter's mother, Nicole Poole: "This is what you get for cheating on me."
Lovers quarrel turned deadly
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police arrest affidavit, Martin and Poole got into an argument during the early hours on Saturday. Martin kicked Poole at around 1:00 a.m. while their baby was sleeping with them in their bed.
Martin continued kicking onto the floor but by the time that Poole got up, she immediately went to the living room and tried to escape. However, Martin took the baby and went to the second-floor balcony. She was shocked when Martin returned empty-handed.
Meanwhile, people immediately ran outside and found the 2-month-old baby on the ground below in the parking lot. Poole also ran immediately and picked up her daughter.
In a published article in Meaww, she shared that she was thinking Martin was chasing her.
Poole called 911 and a neighbor came to help them and tried to revive the 2-month-old baby. However, she had succumbed to her injuries. The Clark County coroner said that the cause of her death was blunt head trauma. At this time, Martin managed to escape from the scene.
Suspect tried to flee the scene
He used the 2015 white Mercedes-Benz that Poole owned. Unfortunately, he got involved in two auto collisions while on his way to Las Vegas airport. He tried to break into a secured area while not wearing a shirt and an employee at the McCarran International Airport questioned him.
The employee said that Martin "crawled onto the baggage conveyor belt that entered into the secure area of the airport." Following it, he was able to get a TSA Security shirt. However, another airport employee saw him loading items into an airport working van The employee immediately alerted the law enforcement.
Fortunately, law enforcement officers were able to catch him. They also added that kept on yelling "Burn, Burn Jeffreys Street, Jeffreys Street!" when they arrested him.
Moreover, Police Lt. Ray Spencer told the reporters that Martin was taken to the hospital to treat injuries he got from the accident and to determine also if he is under the influence of drugs.
On the other hand, Poole told the police officers that Martin once shared with her four years ago when they were still dating that he had mental issues. But he has never seen Martin act violent for the past few years. However, he admitted that Martin did not eat or sleep in the past three days.
Martin missed his first scheduled court appearance because he was being treated in a psychiatric ward at the Clark County Detention Center.
He was charged with open murder, first-degree arson, willful/malicious/torture and maiming of a cat, dog, or animal, and battery on a protected person.
