Making History: ‘Playboy’ Mexico Has Its First-Ever Trans Woman On Its Cover
Playboy Mexico has been an advocate for underrepresented communities. The world's famous publication already featured disabled women, Black women, and trans women long before society deemed it 'appropriate.'
According to Mitu, some of the magazine covers caused such controversy for being so 'ahead of their time' that they often pull and ban from stores' shelves.
In Mexico, the same history happens. The Mexican version of Playboy made history again by featuring a trans woman for the first time on its cover.
The magazine hopes to support the fight for openness and diversity fought by many across Mexico. Playboy has just launched a particular issue that will add to breaking gender stereotypes that have been a milestone within the LGBTQ community.
A trans woman named Victoria Volkova appears on the cover of Playboy magazine. Volkova is a famous lifestyle and beauty influencer and a YouTube star.
In the launching of the history-making edition, the magazine said that Playboy Mexico, in line with its parent company in the U.S., has been in favor of all social struggles as always.
"We invite you to explore this edition that will undoubtedly become one of the favorites in your collection," it added.
On Instagram, Volkova also recounted her struggles to reach acceptance of her body and who she is.
"This cover celebrates the different ways of being a woman, the different ways of being beautiful, and the different ways of exploring your sensuality," shared Volkova.
Besides, Volkova expressed that she is hoping that the magazine could help make people be educated on the conditions that trans people are facing in a strict country like Mexico and other countries across the world.

Volkova is an outspoken and respected advocate
Volkova is a 27-year-old Mexican influencer from Querétaro. She became most famous when she used her platform to advise about lifestyle and beauty. Her Instagram and YouTube have more than a million followers each.
For Mexico's LGBTQ community's rights, Volkova has been a constant fighter, especially when it comes to the rights of transgender and transsexual people. Mainly, she uses her platform to speak out on behalf of the said community.
Aside from being an entrepreneur, Volkova also positioned herself against sexist violence and managed to be part of the trans battle.
Like Victoria Volkova, her sister is also an influencer and creates content for the video channel named "Lenguas de Gato."
It is not the first time a trans woman was featured on a Playboy cover across the world. Caroline Cossey is the first transgender woman to appear in Playboy in 1991, while in 2017, Rau also starred on the magazine cover. The German edition featured trans model and activist Giuliana Farfalla in 2018.
Being named Playmate is a good way to speak out herself, Rau told Playboy. Rau added in the magazine that she thought of all those hard days in her childhood when she was doing the shoot. When the shoot happens, it gives her so much happiness and joy.
Playboy has a long history of featuring social struggles and telling stories of trans women and women of color worldwide.
