Mental health seems like a ravaging problem in this decade, and the sad reality is not many people are aware of that. If sources are to be believed, then there is 1 in every 6 people who struggle with mental health issues. While suicide rates all across the globe seem to be climbing rapidly, Christopher Senekki gives a new direction to the problem. He believes that the gamut of all mental health issues lies in the often-overlooked solution, i.e., self-perception.

For some time now, Christopher has been holding the torch for men's mental health prevention. He has been an ardent advocate for the issue and someone who has also seen a fair share of highs and lows in his life. It is from his self-experiences that Christopher has taken it in his own stride to raise awareness about the issue.

Why Is Mental Health A Source of Concern For Everyone around?

Mental health is one such problem that has seen a rapid surge in today's generation. Blame it on the societal pressure or the lack of self-perception; mental health has been a point of discussion in all health forums.

Most of the time, it is seen that people who suffer from suicidal thoughts, the core stem leading to the problems lies in self-evaluation. Becoming aware of what you are truly capable of will surely pave for mental health, boost confidence, and also emotional intelligence. Christopher Senekki identifies the root solution of all these problems as what he calls "The Prevention Zone."

What Is a Prevention Zone?

Christopher Senekki describes the Prevention Zone as the state of being in the frame of mind where all individuals feel safe, confident, self-aware, and compassionate. He further adds that when a person is in the "Prevention Zone," he finds endless possibilities to improve, acknowledge, and also be aware of one's weakness.

However, Self Awareness acts as a key connection for a person as it can help be aware of the "Push Forces" and "Pull Forces." Christopher describes Push Forces as the one who can keep you within the prevention zone. Similarly, Pull Forces are the one which tries to take you out of it. Being out of the prevention zone means the individual has exposure to mental health problems and neurological disorders like substance abuse.

What All Things Shall Men Avoid To Fall Into The Trap of Mental Breakdown?

According to the statistics, in 2017, there were around 6000 suicide cases in the UK alone and out of which 75% were males. These types of similar figures can also be derived from other countries as well. While there are several factors that contribute to this problem, people also do not find it easy to talk about and fall into the trap of the alpha male stereotype.

1. Toxic Masculinity:

The term "Toxic Masculinity" has become a goto phrase for defining any sort of male behavior. Blame it on the pop culture or the changing norms of the society; the glimpses of toxic masculinity are everywhere.

But what most people do not realize is this takes a heavy toll on the mental state of men. The stereotypical definition of toxic masculinity, in reality, deprives men of expression, compassion, and even opening up to others. This leads to several people falling into the devious trap of depression.

All these together make a person unhappy due to which the immediate after-effects can be seen in his behavior.

2. Gentleman Etiquette:

People in the 1980's and 1990's were supposedly following the gentleman etiquette. Cut short to the present, Christopher thinks the whole idea of following the gentleman's behavior is totally lame.

Drawing conclusions from his struggle story, Senekki points out that men's mental health issues usually stem from societal pressure. People always try to fit the males in a mold, which consumes a huge part of their sanity.

Thus to make sure that you do not fall into the trap of these so-called stereotypes, Senekki says that the whole concept of gentleman etiquette can be pushed back to the bygone eras. Now is the time when men should think of self-esteem and self-confidence first before diving into societal norms.

What According to Christopher Needs To Change?

According to Christopher Senekki, the prevention of mental health issues in men is still in the nascent stage. The whole thing has a long way to go when it comes to redefining the alpha male stereotype.

The first step in doing so is by educating the younger generation in putting an end to such a toxic perception of society. He also knows as these concepts are ingrained so deep in the perspective of people, it will surely take a lot of time before getting erased.

Christopher also sheds light on other things that lead to mental disorders and substance abuse. It is seen that men sometimes try to live up to the other's expectations, which results in severe pressure and stress. He also says that by preventing such types of burdensome situations, one can put an end to negative thoughts.

As per the strategies derived by Christopher:

  • Understanding mental health and disorders are associated with human rights issues.

  • Every person in all walks of life should first comprehend their behaviors. This will lead to unravelling behaviors, perceptions, and ideologies, which can make a significant improvement in mental health issues.

Conclusion:

There is no denying the fact that mental health is being openly discussed nowadays. People are increasingly gravitating towards the solution for the cause and looking for various ways in which it can be curbed. In this type of situation, Christopher Senekki's words will work positively towards changing the notion about the illness.

He has taken it upon himself to use various platforms and advocate help for those people in need. In this era, when people are genuinely concerned about themselves, Christopher's motive is like a flickering firefly for people who need motivation. With his efforts, he is sure that his message will surely enlighten young minds quickly.
