Reggaeton songwriter-turned-singer Jhay Cortez described himself as an introvert who admits that he fights self-doubt in the music industry.

According to the Miami New Times, Jhay Cortez often changes hair color, but it remains unclear if the loud look and bravado are used to disguise his true colors. 

Cortez, 27, had a duet with Bad Bunny titled "Dakiti," which debuted this week. Their duet hit the number nine spot on Billboard's Hot 100. 

Before, Jhay Cortez had a hand in writing in 2018 with J Balvin, Bad Bunny, and Cardi B in "I Like It." In his Universal Latin Music Entertainment debut, Famous, in 2019, Cortez was a shy kid who moved between Puerto Rico, New Jersey, Miami, and Camden.

Jhay admits that he is fighting self-doubt while he is in the music industry. Cortez tells New Times over Zoom that he was the total opposite of what he is right now. "I was super shy - not that I talk a lot right now. I used to be silent. I used to not believe so much in myself. It was a work in progress."

Cortez added that God gave him those trials to become the person he is now, and he is grateful for it. 

Jay's 2019 "No Me Conoce" remix was jumped with the two reggaeton heavyweights Bad Bunny and J Balvin. Cortez's song propelled to number 71 on the Hot 100 and had more than a billion views on YouTube. 

At the 21st-annual Latin Grammy Awards, Cortez will compete with J Balvin and Bad Bunny on Thursday, November 19, at the American Airlines Arena in Miami.

"Medusa," Cortez's collaboration with Anuel Aa and J Balvin, is nominated for Best Rap/Hip-Hop Song. Aside from that song, the song he co-wrote, "Adicto," by Ozuna, Anuel AA, and Tainy, is nominated for Best Urban Song. In 2011, Jhay Cortez had a Latin Grammy to his name for being a part of Tito El Bambino's album, "Invincible."

When Jhay Cortez was quizzed about how many YouTube views "Dakiti" racked up, he correctly guessed between 80-84 million.

Previously, the Puerto Rican artist shared his new single and video for "Kobe en LA," as per Yahoo! Entertainment.

Just a week after the release of his collaboration with Bad Bunny, "Dákiti," "Kobe en LA" arrived." Dakiti" climbed to the no.1 spot on Spotify's global Top 200 list. It was also the first Spanish song to debut in the Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100. 

Moreover, Cortez has written songs for several super artists like Benny Blanco's "I Can't Get Enough," Kali Uchis' "La Luz," Cardi B's "I Like It," and Bad Bunny's "RLNDT." He was also nominated for two Latin Grammy Awards for Best Song Urbana and Best Rap/Hip Hop Song.
