Michael Jordan is considered the wealthiest athlete in the world. According to a Business Insider report, his net worth is already $1.6 billion since he retired from the NBA. He has built a lucrative career through his deals with Nike and other endorsements.

Jordan not only spends his income for himself and his family, but he also shares his earnings with people who are in need. He is a well-known philanthropist who is always willing to share what he had.

Jordan has donated an amount of $2 million to help feed people in need, according to a TMZ Sports report.

The Charlotte Hornets owner donated some of his profit from the "Last Dance" documentary, which became viral and trending worldwide, to Feeding America and its member food banks in the Carolinas and Chicago.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Jordan said: "In these challenging times and in a year of unimaginable difficulty due to COVID-19, it's more important than ever to pause and give thanks."

"I am proud to be donating additional proceeds from The Last Dance to Feeding America and its member food banks in the Carolinas and Chicago to help feed America's hungry," he added.

Feeding America on Wednesday confirmed and posted on its Twitter account the philanthropic act of Jordan.

The group wrote: "An incredible gift to be thankful for - NBA legend Michael Jordan is donating $2 million to help our neighbors facing hunger! #TheLastDance."

The donation comes before the Thanksgiving holiday. It will somehow provide some less fortunate individuals and families to have a nice holiday celebration.

Feeding America touts itself as the largest charitable food assistance network in the U.S.

This is not the first time that Jordan donated millions of money from his own pocket. It can be remembered that back in June, Jordan and his brand pledged an amount of $100 million to help combat racism in the country.

Some of the donated money went to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund Inc., the Formerly Incarcerated, Convicted People and Families Movement, as well as the Black Voters Matter organization.

In 2017, Jordan donated an amount of $7 million to build medical clinics in Charlotte to help poor communities. A year after, he donated $2 million to help families and individuals in North Carolina who were affected by Hurricane Florence.

Just last year, Jordan also donated $1 million in the Bahamas in the wake of Hurricane Dorian.  These are just few of the donations that Jordan made across the country to benefit various causes and to help groups of people who are in need.

Aside from that, Jordan and the Charlotte Hornets had given away more than $3 million for causes related to education, hunger, wellness, and the military since he became the majority owner of the team in 2019.
