Father's Day 2014: Best Vacation Spots to Take Dad
Father's Day always seems to get the short end of the stick when compared to its May counterpart. Maybe it's because we think fathers just don't get too caught up in the whole gift-giving affair. Or maybe we just feel more obligated to make up for all the work and stress we've no doubt given our moms over the years. Say what you want about your father, but he didn't have to carry you in his womb for nine months.
Still, we all know the stereotype of the lazy dad lounging on the couch with a beer in his hand, while mommy slaves away in the kitchen is often untrue. Being a parent isn't easy and daddies put in work too. That's why this June you should consider forgoing the usual greeting card or necktie and do something truly special for your father. Show him your appreciation of all the years spent raising you by giving him some much needed time away.
Sending your dad on vacation will likely be a gift he will cherish for the rest of his life. Below are just a few ideas for popular destinations that will show your poppa you truly care:
New York City - I'm partial to the Big Apple, being a New Yorker myself. But biased or not, you can't deny all the attractions the city has to offer. From the Empire State Building to Yankee Stadium to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, it's almost guaranteed you'll find something that your father will love. It's easy to get around as well, which is something you may want to consider if your dad is getting up there in age.
Lake Placid, New York - If your dad is looking to escape the traffic and concrete, then you may want to consider this nice lakeside getaway. This little village in the Adirondack Mountains provides the perfect opportunity to just kick back and watch the stars at night.
Cooperstown, New York - Turns out New York has a lot more to offer than the big city with this popular town being labeled "America's most perfect village." Here you can take dad to the National Baseball Hall of Fame Museum, its Farmer's Museum or the famous Glimmerglass Opera.
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina - If your dad is a golfer, then you definitely want to bookmark this spot. Known as the "golf capital of the world," it has 115 golf courses and even has 41 mini golf courses.
Chicago, Illinois - If you live in the Midwest and don't want to make the trip to NYC, consider the Windy City. The weather is actually great this time a year, perfect for a boat ride on the Chicago River, or a walk through one of it's beautiful parks.
Las Vegas, Nevada - There's no need to tell you why you would want to take your father here. For a preview of the possibilities, consult "The Hangover."
If nothing here piques your interest, check out some of the places offered at HomeAway or Priceline and make this Father's Day a great one.
